Thinking about buying a few for training. $18 is half the cost of factory mags. Pro Mag was hit or miss on AR and Mini-14 mags during the Ban. Any experience?

Probably I should just stick with factory Smiths.

I have heard nothing good about pro-mags. If you buy two and rhe suck, you have wasted money at the end if the day.

I think a good quote I read is "always train like you will fight."

To me that means you want to train as identically as you can as how hou would carry and use in a high stress environment. The closer you can simulate to reality, the better likelyhood you will respond as trained and properly.

If you plan to only carry factory mags, then i would recommend tdaining with factory mags. Most malfunctions are due to magazine issues. So you want to have the utmost confidyin the mags you use.

I would not necessarily train with SD ammo, but you should teain enough with the SD ammo to ensure it functions relaiably and point of aim and recoil etc is not considerably different.

At meast in a perfect world.

YES!!!!
Your first inclinations are usually the best.
In this case about Promag magazines, you KNOW they are not reliable or highly regarded. Spend a couple extra dollars and get the right proper equipment. I personally have found S&W factory magazines for the M&P's on sale from $19.99 to $24.99. Now that we are approaching the holiday shopping season, they will be on sale as well as other magazines and parts......

I would stay away from the Pro Mags. Greg Cote has factory 17 rounders for about $25 and ACT 17 rounders for $19. I have not used the ACT mags for my M&P's, but I have had excellent service out of ACT mags for other guns.

I have always gone with factory mags when I needed to get more. Especially at this time of year; as stated one can find sales then look for those additional "$10 off $50" type coupons to include.

I would put a Wanted to Buy ad here, or look for someone who has switched to another platform and is selling no longer needed (factory) magazines.

About a year or more ago, I found a 3 mag package of S&W 17 rounders for $60. Look around, as good deals are out there, especially with Black Friday coming up!

I generally avoid Pro-Mag magazines, but if the price is low enough I've been known to give them a second look.

Back during the magazine ban (seems almost like ancient history, now), the Pro-Mag mags for CZ compacts -- especially the mags for the .40 CZ-75B compacts (a gun that CZ announced but never introduced until years later), the Pro-Mag 75B .40 Compact mags were the only way to legally get a high-cap mag for a 9mm CZ compact. And they worked well. I started a trend on the CZ forum!!

I've also had good luck with Pro-Mag Beretta and 3rd Gen S&W mags. But because Mec-Gar mags are so darned good and so reasonably priced, I don't often bother now.

When there are problems with Pro-Mags, it's generally the springs. And if the price is low enough, you can get new springs.

Note, too, if you take a chance and have problems, Pro-Mag has good customer service and will replace the mags.

I have two 10 shot Pro Mags for my Glock 42.
They have performed faultless at the range.
I do not carry them.

I have a Shield 1.0 9mm, all my 8rd mags have Hyve +2 extensions and my 7rd is a Strike EMP+2. I looked at everything that was available for a Shield...I was not happy with what I saw on You Tube Vids concerning the ProMags...too many failures.

As said before, "Friends don't let friends buy ProMags". For the money you waste on those, you could buy a quality OEM mag or other brand that might be available.

I reckon so. Looking around, you can find OEM new for $25. That's $7 more than the iffy Promags. I'm getting OEMs.

Anybody try ACT Mags for the M&P?
