I am looking at picking up an extra magazine and on Ebay, I mainly find Pro-Mags for sale. On looking at much older forums, it was recommended to stay away from but what is the opinion on using Pro-Mags now?

Over the years I have tried Pro-Mag magazines in a variety of semi's. Most by far have not been as reliable as factory. The one exception that comes to mind is several Pro-Mag 30 round Ruger mini-14 mags that always fed flawlessly. Mec-Gar, or factory are usually your best bet, IMHO.

Pro mags fall into that internet myth category, like Bigfoot and UFO's. You hear many stories about people that have seen some that work just fine, but you never encounter them yourself.

Since the "real deal" (S&W OEM) is still available, why would you even think about purchasing a Pro-Mag?

Their quality didn't change. Don't expect something to be cheap and yet somehow still good. When I get any in trades or purchases I either save them for the next panic or I use them as targets

I bought a Pro-Mag for my 39-2 and have had good luck with it. Other 39-2 owners report likewise. However, with other SW models there are many negative reports. But the 39-2 seems to escape the curse.

The 9 rounder from Midway is not a flush fit. Some folks are OK with that. But you can't beat the price!

I bought the following from Numrich. A little spendy but is an exact replica of the standard 39-2 issue SW mag. I've had no problems with it:

Magazine, 9mm, 8 Round, Blued, New Reproduction Gun Parts | 192920 | Numrich Gun Parts

I had a lapse in sanity and picked a a Pro Mag magazine for my 39-2 and yes they still are cheap junk. I picked up a couple of S&W 9 shot mags on sale at Midway and they are so much better, just hangs down a little.

I have an original S&W factory 8rd magazine with the metal follower in close to like new condition I bought off ebay last year that I don't need.

I cost me $49 + $8 shipping

PM if interested.
