I saw some Pro-Mag pistol magazines at Academy Sports. Packed in a blister pack, but they look good.

Does anyone have any experience with them? I want one for a Beretta M-92FS.

I've read not to trust any but original factory mags and those by Mec-Gar. But surely, SOMEONE makes good ones besides them.

I have several ProMags that work okay but use them for practice only. Mec Gar makes most of the factory mags.

I've purchased a few for a Beretta and a Browning. Pure garbage that wouldn't feed. Spend the extra few dollars for MECGAR. They work. JMHO.

I had Pro-Mag magazines for a Walther P-99 and a Browning Hi-Power; one of each. Both were junk; they used a coiled flat spring attached to the top of the magazine body to provide spring tension to the follower. The feeding was erratic at best. There was no way to replace the flat spring with a regular magazine spring. I've seen advertisements for Pro-Mag magazines for rifles; I don't have any experiences with them, but I wouldn't recommend the pistol magazines.

Some ProMag products work. Their metal rifle mags are usually okay. Prior to Ruger selling factory 20 and 30rd Mini 14 mags to the public, the best non scalper's priced option was the ProMag metal (not Polymer, avoid the polymer) 20 and 30rd mags. They generally worked well, though sometimes you'd get one with parts installed backwards.

They will warranty their mags, but... If you call, English is apparently a second language to the person that answers the phone. At least that was my experience.

Handgun mags... Eh. The ones that I had for my USP .45 were fine, as were the ones that I had - during the ban no less - for my BHP. My BHP mags worked well enough that I actually used them as carry mags.

That said, I prefer not to rely on Promags if I can avoid it, since some of their products are lemons and it is a bit of a crap shoot. QC also seems a bit dicey.

ACT, MDS what not in Italy make workable Beretta mags. The old Pachmayr mags were also good. Avoid the CMI GI mags.

Beretta 92 mags should be common and cheap enough. Just send away, try CDNN et al. There's stacks of them at the local MCX.

I think the coil spring ones are Eagle, definitely crap. I have 3 Promag, 13 rounders for a Sig 228. I ahve never had a problem with any of them, 100% reliable. But I use factory mags for carry. So even at $10 per, unless you need "range" mags different from "carry" mags, pass. Joe

I bought a Pro Mag...once. Took it right back to where I bought it.

The "word on the net" is run...don't walk...away from Pro Mags. They are crap from the word go. Just don't even think about it.

I have usually stayed away from them, as has my local dealer. Recently however, he got 30rd Promags in for the Ar15 22conversion. At $25 they are a hell of a lot cheaper than the Ciener ones and so far I've had no complaints.
