My slice of paradise
I have the opportunity to buy two nice pieces and I would like some input and opinion regarding which, if either is a good deal. One is a 2" 686 (no dash) in near new 99% condition for $550 and the other a Pro Series 60-15 3" with the internal lock and wood grips and Trijicon front sight for in 98% condition for $515. Neither have boxes, or any extras, etc. The 60-15 sure isn't a very classical looking revolver, but it feel great and I really love my other J frames so I'm sure I'd enjoy this one as well. I tend to gravitate towards short barrel so these have really caught my eye. Are either worth jumping on for the prices I have mentioned? Also, have there been any issues or problems with either of these models or are they typical top-quality S&W hardware? Any help you could offer is much appreciated!

I would pass on both, I don't like lock guns and the 686 seems a little high and I prefer 3" over 2".. Just me though, buy what works for you, the prices are not bad

I take that back the prices are good,, get the 686

If I had the money... I'd buy em both. I already purchased the 60-Pro.. amazingly beautiful shooting gun. I love it. As for the 686... I can only drool on the showcase, it's on my list..

Oh ya.... As for the lock gun stuff... I love em... don't give that a second thought..

I'm not crazy about the internal locks either. The 686 is pre-lock of course, but the 60-15 is cursed with one. I do have a couple S&W's with the IL and have never had a single hicup from one, but I still just don't care for them and if I had a choice, I'd rather they go away....but with our society it's not likely to go anywhere. We should probably just be happy that we still have S&W still making products in the USA at all. That said, I really only want to buy one or both if they are a good price. What would these actually sell for (not collect dust in a display case) in your area? I some voice to help sway me either way. Thanks!

Personally I'd go w/the 686 due to the lock, if you plan on CCW. I own two with the IL and have never had a problem, but both are range guns only.

Cursed...... comon, ease up on the drama... please.. :)

The 686 should actually be a 2 1/2" barrel.

The 60 Pro is a fantastic little revolver. I pocket carry mine every day. The new grips that were designed for it fit many different hand sizes comfortably. The action, especially the SA break, on mine is simply superb. As with all revolver night sights of this type, the vial in the thin blade is really too small to give good illumination. So I consider it a non-feature. Mine is extremely accurate. Much more than a pocket gun needs to be.

$515 for a clean used one is not too bad of a price, but it is no steal. I paid $575 for a excellent condition used one in the box with all paperwork. The previous owner (a known recoil sensitive person) fired some 357 Magnums through it and just could never be accurate with it after that.

I would pass on the 686 myself. The deal is not good enough.

There is always issues with any mechanical device. You will find numerous folks that have had problems with any model of S&W that you care to mention. I once bought a revolver that left the Performance Center with no hand. It had even been test fired three times. How did that happen. Who cares. S&W took care of it and it is one of my favorite 41 Magnum revolvers.

My main carry piece is the M60 .357 3 inch barrel and I love it. Very accurate (as much as I can be!) and it feels great in my hand. Never had a problem with it.
