All:

I am going to buy an M&P 40, and am trying to decide if it's worth getting the 'pro' model. Gun will be used primarily for home defense and IDPA. Is the trigger upgrade that much better? How are the night sights?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

I bought the Pro 5" because I planed to use it for USPSA and 3-gun. The Novak sights and trigger work were worth the upgrade to me. The trigger was gritty but an APEX USB took care of that.

If you're talking about the 4.5" with the night sights, I'd say the price premium is still worth it for the sights and minor trigger work they do at the pro shop.

If they are night sights (not FO) and the gun is $100 more than a standard 40FS then it is worth it. Pro trigger is not worth much if anything.

For me, the pro was worth the extra money. I got NS and a better trigger. With minimal work and no after market parts, you can make the pro trigger slick as Owl poop.
That said, comparing the stock trigger on both models, the pro series trigger is head and shoulders above the stock M&P. {IMO} A little gritty in the take up, but a crisp break.

Pro trigger is definitely better especially after about 2K rounds and price some Trijicon night sights. My pro was $50 more than the regular version.

Unless they are they same price (Pro vs Long) it's not worth it and I would suggest the Long.

The F/O front sight on the Pro is worthless and there is no trigger work done at the factory. It's just a lighter pull. It has all the grit and slop of the standard trigger and as you have seen above, most end up with Apex parts in the end.

Save your money and get the Apex competition kit and some Dawson sights - you will thank me.

I purchased the M&P9 Pro which has a very nice factory trigger - I see no need to improve it. I was also happy with the choice of sights. If you intend to go for the Apex internals and/or adjustable rear sight then a 9L would make more sense.
