Probably the most verbose intro ever. Sorry!

Hi...My name is Travis and Im obviously new to the forum.

Im a 38 year old family man with 4 kids and a great wife. Ive got three daughters and a son, and with the girls quickly approaching the age of "courting", I decided Id better start my "collection" to weed out the weak young men that come knocking. :p ...Im also looking forward to teaching the boy to shoot.

My first love was a .22 / 410 under/over that my father gave me as an 11 year old boy. Since then Ive owned a few other weapons... I "rented" a sweet M-16 named "Sally" from Uncle Sam for a while (still miss her!), a junky little .25, a Star 9mm, a Beretta 92FS, a Glock 19, a Bersa .380 and a Winchester Defender (full-on tactical)...Some were sold to pay the rent, some unfortunately, were stolen from me.

Im starting to slowly collect again and have acquired a Taurus PT-22 for the wife and a Mossberg 590 and a Sigma 9 for myself.
I REALLY dig the Sigma. I was amazed at how much more I like it than the Glock I owned.
...also, for about $300 less AND American made...total WIN/WIN
(I do miss the G19's 33 round clip, though!)

Im entertaining the opportunity to purchase a N.I.B. Bushmaster AR-15 w/ red dot for $675...wifey okay'd it, but Ive also got a 68 Impala to get back on the road...Decisions, decisions.

I have been in the military (short stint in the Army- "served" from 1993-94), an entrepreneur, a radio broadcaster, a Massage Therapist, Health Unit Coordinator and Certified Nurse Assistant. Currently, Im attending a Surgical Technology Program at Pensacola State College and will pursue 1st Assist after that.

So that's me, in a nutshell. I'm an enthusiast, but an aficionado by no means. Im looking forward to learning alot here...sorry in advance for any dumb q's that may post from my direction.

Thanks for reading, take care.

Hello Travis & a big WELCOME ABOARD from the Great Lakes State of Michi-Gun!

Nice intro & keep that '68 Impala out there where people can see it!! :)

Thanks for the welcome Ogy. Been to Ludington a long time ago...beautiful place. And, she'll be a daily driver in a little more than a month. Ill post up with worthwhile pics when I get some. Cant wait to make the 355 wake the neighbors!

Thanks, James. I agree! Unfortunately, there's noplace in my neck of the woods to "try before you buy". If someone would open a range that would rent, they'd clean up (and Id probably be broke).
Im torn between the AR (just because I want one) and a pocket pistol for concealed carry at the moment.
The "bodyguard" is tempting, but I really want something super-slim with minimal imprint. I don't really want to go the Kel-tec route...Ruger LCP is looking attractive at a 0.77 width but dont dig the short grip.
Didnt see anything comparable from S&W. Am I missing something?

Welcome to the forum. Before you jump into a Bushmaster, take a look at S&W's growing selection of AR carbines. They're getting better as time goes by,and they have one for just about anyone's budget or purpose.
I could say more, but for now just a friendly suggestion.

Thank you, Stu. The Sport slipped my mind. Maybe because the bush has a red dot that comes with and the sales (mis)representative said the Sport was only avail in .223

Maybe I shouldnt compromise over $24 ($699 for the Sport)...I'd rather have a green dot sight, anyway.

Thanks, Colonel. Fabbin' up a gun-rack for the Mossberg in the rear window as we speak! Just kidding
...Id love to have a police cruiser 12 ga dash rack though!
Thanks again for the welcome.

Welcome from Indiana. Hey, forget the Impala if you got
the Ok from the wife for a new gun. You can always hitch
right??? Just Kiddin' but again welcome. Great bunch of guys
and gals on here who are passionate about their Smiths.

Welcome Travis from Jonesboro, Ga. Thank you for your service regardless of the length.

Welcome from Texas Travis. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

You mentioned "courting". I had an old rusty knife I kept to show these young men dating my daughter. I would tell them, if they want to keep...
