Problem with Remington ammo?

View attachment 152883I've been using WWB 115gr. at the range in my sd9 and have had no issues with about 800 rounds down range. I found some Remington umc 115gr. a couple of bucks cheaper for 100 round box and decided to try it and the results have not been good. I purchased 200 rounds and out of those 200 rounds I have had two FTF and seven fail to lock open after last round. My M&P didn't have any issues with this ammo witch didn't surprise any. I went to the range today and this time I took WWB and did not have any issues with about 100 rounds. has anyone else had issues with Remington umc ammo? just a little concerned but I am pretty sure its not the weapon. Thanks

i havent had any issues with any ammo in my SD40VE, again its not a 9mm. but ive shot alum case tulammo, herters nylon jacket/alum case, cheap reloads. premium HP, bulk FMJ. you name it it eats it every time

pretty sure the slide locks open due to the mag follower hitting the catch on the side forcing it to be in a up and locked position.

Narrow it down to ammo. As HMBIO said, my old SD40VE ate it all. Reman, WWB, etc.
But all guns are not created equal.

See if the ammo gives you the same issue in both mags.
Narrow it down. I thought I had a problem with my 40c when I got it...it didn't like the same reloader my SD40 ate up...is what it is.

I have shot the Remington UMC 115gr. load a lot in a Walther P-38 and a Taurus PT-92 with no issues in those ....but every semi-auto is a law unto itself when it comes to ammo and magazine likes and dislikes.

I have seen a lot of threads in here lately complaining about win,rem,fed. ammo maybe with the shortage manufactures are a bit lax on quality control. but every auto has a particular appetite. try it in a different 9mm as mentioned already.

My M&P ate it up but I've never had one issue with my sd9 until I started using Remington umc. Maybe its just my sd9 doesn't like it. and I can live with that. It was just my range ammo but it has no problem with Hornady CD that I keep it loaded with at home. on another note I did not keep track of witch mag it was having the malfunctions with I do have my mags numbered and I will try some more and maybe find the problem with the mag. I checked both mags and did not find an issue with either during inspection after the first failures. but I will research it further. its great having such a great resource in this forum. Thank you all.

I do not buy Remington ammo, even if it's all that's available. It's all dirty and inconsistent, IMHO, and the .22, especially the Thunderbolt, can make even the best guns malfunction. Since the first of the year, I had a squib load with it in my Ruger Mark II and some sort of weird disintegration of a bullet in my Smith pre-18, causing a partial blockage of the barrel. I gave away several hundred rounds I had left.

I've read lots of complaints about Remington ammo, mainly hard primers which cause failures to fire. I never had any problem with Remington ammo, myself, but as has been mentioned, some guns work better with some ammo than others.

The best thing you can do is find the ammo that works consistently and the best in your gun for SD, and then relegate the rest for range use. Even the best ammo may have a failure, so practice clearing drills.

I'll post an update in here on Monday after I goto the range have 200 rounds of Winchester whitebox and 100 rounds of federal to shoot.

I have shot 250 rounds of blazer brass and 50 aluminum cased with one failure to feed (first round with the gun) and 2 or 3 failures to lock back. But I believe they were all cause the weapon was new and not fully broke in

I've had no problem with UMC, put a couple of hundred down the pipe and works fine.

If yours doesn't like it, I'd just shoot it up and move on to other types of ammo.

I ended up putting 300 rounds of Winchester white box and 100 rounds of the federal white box down the pipe over the last 2 days. I'll be sticking with the Winchester whitebox it's cheap and my gun seems to love it.

Generally speaking, today's commercial ammo's QC is pretty darn awesome.

I've found most perceived problems blamed on guns and or ammo tend to end up being "Pilot Error".

I use the Rem UMC 115 grain mostly in my SD9VE and it's never had one issue. I have also found it to be slightly more accurate than the cheaper Tulammo (which it also shoots just fine).

I've shot 200 rounds of rem 124 and 115 and I have beer had a FTF or FTE, I did have one where the lock didn't kick back on the last round. But that was the first and only time it has happened. I've looked on other forums on here since it's fairly new and it said just to leave it on lock for a while which it is now. My SD9VE loves anything I've shot. I love it as a target gun and self defense.

There was a time in my younger days when everything I shot in rimfire, center fire pistol, rifle and shotgun was remington/peters.

Today Their rimfire ammo is total ****, the pistol ammo is filthy, occasionally unreliable with major muzzle flash and definitely not the most accurate. The one thing they still do well is their shotgun ammo-the ammo they offer for skeet and sporting clays is exceptional.

I shot the Remington UMC only once through my SD9VE. Got their value pack of 250 rounds. The only "issue" I had was that it's pretty dirty ammo, no hick-ups shooting though.
