Been checking out magazines since I only have two eight-rounders. Looks like Promag makes and extended ten round magazine for .45 ACP. They are kinda pricey so I wanted to know if anyone has had any luck with them, or should I just pay more for factory magazines?

ProMag has a less than stellar rep for quality. They are absolutely my last choice. I bought 2 for a Mini-30 that wouldn't even fit in the rifle.

Google is your friend.

Having said that I bought 4 10 rounders for an out of production FEG 9mm & they all kinda worked. 2 developed last round hold open issues fairly quickly tho.

Bite the bullet & go for factory or MecGar.

+1 Fishslayer. I have never tried ProMag but everyone I know has and they won't use them anymore. MecGar is the only after market I will use.

Mec Gar discontinued the 645/745 Magazines and retailers are all sold out. Google has nothing on them as far as retail information. Since the ProMag is half the price of a factory magazine and carries two extra round its might be worth ordering one. If it doesn't work cant I just refund it for my money back?

If you can't get Mec Gars, bite the bullet and buy the factory mags.
The aggravation you avoid is worth the extra money by itself. Friends don't let friends buy Promags!

Factory mags have never let me down...neither have their springs. I have a 4506 that I bought in 1990 and have seven mags for it. None have cracked or have the feed lips spread and the S&W springs are quality. This pistol has never failed in all those years if this tells you anything.

I wish I could say the same about the springs! I've had them get weak and not lock the slide back, but they do feed just fine I won't discount them as making the gun unreliable as a whole!

Reliability is not something I associate with Pro Mags. I would advise you to stick with factory mags or if you must use aftermarket to buy MecGar mags.

MecGar is a reliable alternative to factory OEM mags in my experience. Regards 18DAI

Buy Mecgar 4506 magazines. They will work fine in your 645. Full size .45s from S&W have interchangeable magazines. I use 4506 magazines for my 457 and 4566 when at the range. Never had a problem.

Well guys I don't know what to tell you but I put twenty rounds through the ProMag and not one jam. The 645 was designed so well I guess it compensated for ProMag's issue with magazine design flaws. The ProMag worked great, and the best part is it was inexpensive. I was using Blazer steel cased .45 ACP.

Glad to hear it. I have one that I'll be testing out in the near future.

ProMag reliability

I have to say I have had trouble with promags in the past. Most notably their plastic mags crack or seperate. But I have 2 of the 10 round mags for my 645 and neither have ever f2f. However 1 thing worth noting is that I have a blue model and a stainless and for whatever reason, perhaps spring length, you really have to force a 10th shell into the stainless one. That being said I will tell you I would not hesitate to buy another for a 645 or 4506 if I needed an extra.
