I just picked up an 8 3/8" Nickeled Model 29-2 that is in excellent condition except one thing. I noticed the screw holding down the rear sight did not look quite right (sat a little too high above the leaf spring) so I removed it. Upon inspection I noticed the screw is a little to small to mate up with the frame threads properly. The threads in the top strap are perfect clean and sharp but the screw is worn and a little undersized.
I called S&W and they are sending me a new screw but they would only send one (free of charge) because they said they had very few. I would like to keep a spare on hand but S&W could not tell me what the screw size and thread pitch are. My gun was made in 1980 (or maybe 1981).
Anyone have the specs for the rear sight leaf spring screw?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
