I was reading the thread named Any flag buffs out there.
Although interesting, I thought it was going to be about those
of us who are enthusiastically proud of old glory. I Know I am.

The one on the left is in my office.
The 2nd one is in my living room.
The 3rd one ' I will only buy flag stamps.
I even like the flag displayed on my return address.
I fly a flag outside on special days.
How about you?

Our neighborhood is pretty good about flying Old Glory, depending on the upcoming weather forecast. Most of the time I can look up and down the street and see 7 flags flying, including ours. Just around the corner I can see the Veteran that proudly flies his also.

I love the flag and what it stands for .

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Mine's outside hanging every day, weather permitting. Some special days, historically to America, I have small flags lining my sidewalk to the front walk. I also rig a light up to keep my main flag lit up all week end on nat'l holidays. I have a couple down in my basement hangout. In my living room the only flag is the folded one from my dad's funeral. Yeah, I'm proud of our flag & what it stands for.
Tomorrow, Dec. 8th is the anniversary of John Lennon's murder and Jim Morrison's birthday. Some think that's reason for a national remembrance day. Both actually changed America in their arts in some small way.

Shortly after I moved into my little city house I installed a 25ft flagpole and display the flag 24/7, lighted at night and only comes down when winds hit above 50mph. Todays flags only last about 6 months before they need to be retired and replaced but that is a small cost to pay the proper respect. Started a trend on my street with about 6 others popping up over the past 5 years.

In 1906 George M. Cohan wrote "You're a Grand Old Flag". It quickly sold over a million copies of sheet music being the first song from a musical to do so.

I remember singing it in 8th grade music class.

Still relevant today.

Chorus
You're a grand old flag,
You're a high-flying flag,
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of the land I love,
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'Neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
But should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

Old Glory

Yes, I'm proud of our flag. I never had the honor, or privilege to serve in the armed services, but greatly honor those that have, and the great flag that they served under. I have shown my honor and respect for them by, displayed Old Glory, 24/7, for many years. My flag-pole is equipped with a 1/8" stainless-steel cable, endless loop system. The flag is properly illuminated after dark, by a solar-powered, battery pack, and two floodlights.

Much to my dismay, I just noticed that my lighting system has failed. At 90yrs old, I am physically unable to raise, and lower my flags. My son lives many miles away, and visits to tend the needs of my wife and I, only a couple of times a week. Consequently, I'll be unable to display Old Glory in the future.

My wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I asked for a new flag. The old one just developed a tear and it is time to start flying a new one.

I believe the USA is about the only country that reveres the flag like we do..I think it all started with the writing of our National Anthem. Our anthem is about our flag.......I for one get irritated when I see our flag soiled, in need of repair and no light, still flying. Upsets me when the fans in the stands do not look at the flag during the national anthem..

Happy New Year folks!!

Plenty of flags flying up here. Have to get a pole up come spring. Back in Aurora CO when I put My flag out My tires got slashed, and rocks through My window. Smashed the truck window once. Lots of other countries flags flying tho.

On my retirement day, after the formal presentation of my retirement credentials, I was escorted outside. I found 2 younger Troopers I had mentored in Class A uniforms at the post flag pole. Everyone present was called to Attention and those 2 young Troopers proceeded to formally retire the post flag and properly fold it. The flag was then transferred to the Post Commander who formally presented the flag to me. One of the Troops (I never found out which one thought it up), had arranged to have a new flag raised over the post 26 days before my retirement (1 day for each year of my service, I spent my entire career at this one post). I am not ashamed to admit that I was in tears at this thoughtful tribute and that flag is my most prized possession. My orders are for that flag to be cremated with me, as I have no immediate family to properly care for this keepsake.

I have been witness to the price some have paid to protect it and keep it flying. I think about it every day. we are flying two American flags and two Texas flags on the compound. I spend some time every morning during our coffee time looking at it and thinking about what it stands for and all that has been done to preserve all of it.

Yes. I believe my pride and patriotism is up there
