I have two Model 64 4" revolvers. One is a 64-6 marked .38 S.&W. Special Ctg. The other is a 64-8 marked .38 Special +P. Is there any reason to beleive I cannot shoot plus P rounds out of both of these guns? Any thoughts about the 2-piece barrel pros or cons?

Any S&W 38 Special revolver that has a frame and cylinder made of steel or stainless steel and has a model number stamped into the crane recess is safe to fire 38 Special +P ammo.

The 357 Magnum K-frames with the multi-piece barrel are stronger than the original K-frame design. The original design has a thin, flat spot on the barrel shank for yoke clearance, this thin spot is removed with the multi-piece barrel system. The top strap of the frame is also slightly thicker to improve durability and the forward cylinder lock moved from the ejector rod tip to a ball and detent system in the crane recess.
