Pun very intended! So I pulled the trigger and decided time to take a shot in the revolver world, yeah that's two! This is my first and doubtfully last revolver, didn't have time to make it go bang yet but that will be this weeks fun. It's primary purpose, other than range fun, will be something simpler for my wife to use if she is threatened in the house. The hope is it never is used for it's primary role but secondary to that is to get my wife shooting with me some.

Revolvers!

Great choice and a beautiful revolver there to be sure. You're hooked now, so welcome to the club.

I'm old (school and other), revolvers will go bang every time you pull the trigger on a loaded chamber, so in my humble opinion are the epitome of reliability. Besides when you're old like my wife and I, those slides get harder to pull.

My two cents, for what it's worth...Congratulations again on a beautiful firearm.

686+

Have had mine for a year and a half, put about 2200 rds thru it both 38 and 357, GREAT pistol!!! Just changed out the grips to VZ grey and white. Very accurate and just a ball to shoot. Hope you enjoy yours.:):):)

That is the perfect barrel size for a self defense Revolvers for balance pointability. You may find that for small hands like my wife has... OEM Smith "Magna" grips found on Ebay coupled with a Tyler-T grip is a great combination for the wife's hands and will let her have better trigger reach than the grips that are on it can offer. Here is a similar sized set-up for when I had that combo on my "N" framed M29-3... "when it's Combat grips were being borrowed for my Carry M629-5 until I could source another set of vintage Combats. These grips pictured below are Altamont manufactured Magna's... but in my opinion, they don't compare to any of the vintage OEM Smith "Magna's" in any way...

That's a heck of a start to a revolver collection! The two of you will enjoy that one for years to come.

I have the 686 and they are fine guns, but why the 3" barrel as opposed to the 4"?

I have been ogling a 3-inch 686 plus for a while now. I need to let the dust settle on some recent purchases and then perhaps I can get one too. Nice revolver(s) - have fun and be safe!

The answer to why the 3"...it felt the best in my hand and wife said the same. I just had her pick them up and raise to a shooting position. Watching her with them the 3" was the smoothest move from sitting to raised. All of that said I am certain this will not be the last 686 or revolver to follow me home.

I agree. Yours with the unfluted cylinder and special .357 grips looks intimidating. I held one and it balanced well but should never have put it back in case...it was gone later that same day. Great choice for a home defense revolver.
