Puma Knife Model 230265 (Sergeant)

Thanks for the link. A Puma folder sounds like a good addition to add to my meager collection. So many changes in the steels these days it gets confusing to say the least. I notice the older models from the 60s and 70s often going for big money on E-Bay. Often the stainless steels used today have alloys like molydenum or vanadium added to strengthen the blade and have good edge holding ability.

After reading the comments here and researching online I'm confident mine is made from 440A stainless. `It appears 4440A and 1.4116 stainless are what Puma has been mostly using these days. These are not super steels, but are more than adequate. Heat treatment is a big factor anyway. When mine takes an edge it stays sharp. Until I got a Spyderco Sharpmaker I could not put a good edge on it.

Mine does not have the Rockwell hardness test dimple on it. It also has a nail nick not a full cutout opening.

It opens and closes very smoothly. Yes, it is slick enough to be called a one hand opener. Mine locks up securely, but there is a bit of vertical and horizontal blade play when locked open. If I was going to buy one today I would opt for stag scales over plasctic.

I did get a reply from Puma and it was the same as what I found by using the number on the lock lever instead of the model nnumber
