I do not know the whole story. He loaded the gun and pulled the hammer back. It is my understanding he was trying to lower the hammer with the gun points in a "safe direction" and - BOOM! The round went through the mattress and part way through the box springs.

Back in the 80's I was working deep nights. My partner had just bought a brand new Colt Python. He was trying to show me how smooth the trigger was and - BOOM right through the windshield on our cruiser. My ears hurt for a month.

Shooting the windshield out of a police cruiser would not be an easy thing to report to the boss. How did that go?

He got a three day unpaid vacation and had to requalify before he came back to work.
