I've been wanting a 9mm pistol and have an opportunity to purchase a Model 5906 at a excellent price. It has the adjustable sights and comes in the original box with two 10-round magazines. I'm considering it mostly as a target range firearm with a secondary defense role.

What do you all thing about the pistol in general? And also, other than Smith & Wesson itself, where would be a good place to find some of the 15-round magazines for it?

Thanks in advance...

The 5906 is a great pistol! I just bought one, used, and love it. It is somewhat heavy but this will make it pleasant to shoot on the range. Lots of testimonials on this forum and others in favor of the 5906!

There are mags all over the internet for the 5906. I bought three of them (used) off the classified page on this forum, but you can get new ones from Greg Cote LLC -- including either factory 15 round, Mec-Gar 15 round, or Mec-Gar 17 round versions -- for very good prices.

Disclaimer: I have no connection to Greg Cote LLC but have purchased mags from them in the past and received excellent prices and service.

THEY ARE:

HEAVY!

PLAIN!

THEY SCREAM 80'S!

That's not the sole reason I now have 3. THESE ARE GREAT PISTOLS!

For target shooting at the range and for home defense they're hard to beat.

Congratulations. You will not regret buying one.

I personally love the heft of the all SS 3rd gens. You know exactly waht you have when you wrap your mitts around one: a solid, well crafted hunk of steel that will digest even the cheapest of ammo. I don't think you can do any better than the 5906 for a basic range gun at the price they currently go for.
