First of all I have no intention of trying to solve this issue myself, it will go to a professional. But i am curious about what needs to be done. At full cock the hammer can be pushed off with thumb pressure. When the trigger Is pulled at full cock the trigger moves forward with the hammer and the round does not fire . Double action everything works normally. So what heeds to be done, replace the hammer and trigger? Or could the sear or hammer notch be recut?

Thanks.

push off

The usual repair for push-off consists of sharpening (re-sharpening) the bevel on the trigger. If the rebound spring has been cut or replaced with an aftermarket spring, you may be able to repair the condition by installing a new, full-length OEM rebound spring.

If you've never had the gun worked on, and the parts in the gun are unaltered, the gun should be evaluated and repaired by a qualified gunsmith, factory trained S&W armorer, or returned to S&W for service.
