putting a scope on the Sport

I want to leave the folding rear sight on my sport as a back up sight when I take the scope off. What rings would I need to clear the rear folding sight when it is folded down ?

I have 1" tall rings on mine, plus I use a 1/2" riser to get my line of sight. NcStar makes a QD riser mount that is pretty sweet that enables you to take the scope off and use the BUIS's for play time real quickly and holds its point of Aim...I have one and have used it but since I only have poly sights now I dont use it. But it was 3/4 inch tall and worked nicely.

I have and really like these rings on mt Sport.

You can take them of your rail with a 1/2" wrench and the rings are tightened doen with 6 torque screws. They are very solid and can removed easily when you want to use open sights.

You might consider the burris ar-perp.

Its hard to say what will work as the rail on the stock sport is not really that long.

So you have to figure out where you want your scope eye part to sit when you are holding the rifle.

Then check the tube space where the barrel side of the scope is to where the turrets start to make sure the front ring will sit on the rail.

The burris ar-perp is cantilivered 2 inches forward to help most scopes fit better on a stock ar15.

Your scope might work fine with just plain rings of the right height for where you want to position it or it might not.

I'm running one inch rings and half inch risers.
My 4x32 scope clears the rear sight by a slight margin but a bigger objective probably wouldn't.

Measure the distance from bottom of the part of the rail where the picatinny notches are to the top of the rear sight when its folded down. As a example lets say its 3/4 inches.

Then figure out what part of the scope is going to be over the rear sight,the tube or the eye bulb part.

As a example if you have a 1 inch scope tube and that is the part of the scope that will be over the rear sight then use half the scope tube size or 1/2 inch.

Add 1/2 inch and 1/8th inch (air gap) to the first measurement you took and that is the minimum height you would want the scope rings you buy to be.
So the example would be 3/4+1/2+1/8=1-3/8 inches.

If you could not find rings the height you need you would want to add a picatinny riser to make up the difference.

The Burris PEPR mount (or one like it, meaning a cantilever mount) is the one to get. It should allow the ocular end of the scope to clear the rear sight. I don't know what kind of rear sight you have, but the PEPR does in fact allow my Nikon M-223 to clear a Troy rear sight. The PEPR will also allow you to use scopes with up to a 50mm objective.

Give RRA 's mounts a look over . Prices are great and quality is very good too. I have there cantilever mount on mine, bought and shipped from RRA cheaper than the middlemen. Price is 50.00 bucks

I have a Nikon M-223 2-8x on a Burris PEPR QD mount. No problem clearing the stock Magpul rear sight.
