I recently picked up a 15-3, which was pinned, but not recessed. It was a 1970 mfg. Why are some recessed and some not? Is it certain models have one or the other & others have both?

Ah, ok, thanks guys. :) Sorry for the possibly obvious questions, I'm new to old S&Ws. For a long time I've been a 1911 guy, the round guns have recently bitten me.

Yeah, I thought it was those darn 1911s that were notorious for hammer bite!

no cure....

[, the round guns have recently bitten me.

This is serious! There is no know cure for the bite from a round gun![/QUOTE]

However, you can extend your life and experience great joy as you constantly add to your collection. Cleaning, polishing, taking photos and bragging to your friends is also helpful in fighting this dreadful condition. Save yourself brother.....head for the LGS or a gun show NOW!

Oh how I feel the poison coursing through my veins too...its a nasty bite!

;) You guys are too much. :D A shop near me has about six or eight Model 10s & 15s, all on consignment, it's where I got the 15. It's harder than hell to stay away from there, it's only about a 1/2 mile from our house!
I think I'm gonna get the wife stirred up the way I've been going on about old blue guns. ;)

Welcome to the forum and glad to see your interest in revolvers.

Another CA guy. ;)

I have a Smith 66, no dash 1st year of production, 4" barrel, ss sights (not black), pinned and recessed; and 66-3 with 6" barrel and a 686-3 with 4" barrel; and 648 no dash, 6" barrel, .22 magnum, recessed with S&W fingergroove wood grips. Of course I have ventured beyond 1980. I am not sure of the 66-3 vintage, but the 648 and 686 are 80s production. I also have a 1066 that gets to the 90s.. I just joined the forum yesterday.

See, those wheelies are good for your health! A good reason to take a walk--or several...! ;)

Ok, where is this gun store? Don't be a revolver hog. :D

I have several pinned/recessed revolvers and several that are not. Why did they stop pinning the barrels?

I have an unpinned 629 that recently had to go back to S&W because the barrel had screwed farther into the frame from years of shooting. I suppose a pin would have kept that from happening. Would it be practical to retrofit a pin?
