Did my HR 218 qualification today. I was actually about a month expired. Of course I still had my FL CCW so I was still legal. It was a beautiful day, sunny with a mild breeze at about 68 degrees. Perfect really.
There were several other old guys qualifying with me in about 3 different qualification runs that I'm aware of. Maybe 15 guys altogether. Here you have to qualify with the type you're going to carry, semi-auto or revolver or both if you want to be able to carry either. In my run there were just two of us that qualified with both. The others just shot semi-autos.
I shot my new Hellcat with red dot for my semi-auto. I'm embarrassed to say was a bit of a mess. An early morning shoot after a lack of sleep due to babysitting a 18 month old grandchild that chose to not sleep during the night. I shot my new Hellcat with optic that I haven't really shot other than zeroing the optic. I forgot to take both the optic cover off and the safety. Duh.... Well it's an easy qualification but I did throw 3 of the 40 out. I passed but I wasn't proud of it. I really do need to practice more with the red dots. I'm distracted by the wavering red dot where wavering irons don't distract.
Well next just us two wheel gunners qualified again. I used my 4" 686-4 I bought just a year or two ago to replace the 4" 686 no dash I traded off years ago after it got too salty while on the boats. I'm still a wheel gunner at heart and this is a great shooting gun that's a joy to shoot. I think it shoots better than my old one did. It sure looks better other than the factory goodyears. I had a very good pattern EXCEPT for one flier off in the white. I have no idea where that came from. It must have been the other guy
Oh well, good for another year. The bad news is I used some really old dirty reloads in the 686. That won't be fun.
It sure was a nice day for shooting. Some of the Sunshine State's best.
