I have a few rounds of thirty-eight marked; "FC .38 +P+" It has a copper jacket, deep lead hollow point with a post in the center of the hollow point. Does anyone know who manufactured this ammo, how many grains it might be and about how long ago? Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

IIRC they were loaded by Federal® w/147gn HydaShok® JHP. That particular loading was LEO I believe, but I'm not 100% positive on that. I do know it is no longer offered by Federal. If it were mine, I would only fire it in my 357 Magnum guns; and not in a 38 Special.

it is offered still. It is listed under their LE ammo. Also Ammunition to go has it in stock for $29.95.

This is 38 Special Federal LE Tactical Hydra-Shok 147gr. +P+ Hollow Point Ammo. The Hydra-Shok Hollow Point remains the most popular choice for accuracy and overall ballistic performance. Its notched copper jacket controls penetration and a unique center-post hollow point design provides controlled expansion and efficient energy transfer for incredible performance. This ammo is packed in 50rd. Law Enforcement boxes, 1000rds. per case.

This load does 870 FPS over the chrono out of my Model 64 with 2" barrel. This is somewhat underwhelming in light of what Buffalo Bore offers today or what can be achieved through careful handloading.

And it is safe to fire in ANY modern .38 Special revolver.

Thanks everyone, I'll most likely send it downrange with my Ruger .357.
