I found a K-38 today..5 screw so no modl number. 6 inch of course diamond magnas in a gold box..no papers. Fellow wants 650 for it..can probably get it for 600. Condition is about 96% or so.. Did they come in a gold box? Worth the asking price?? I'm thinking of buying it in the morning if y'all think the price is right. Missed a really nice 27-2 3 1/2 inch for 900 by 2 minutes or less. I would have bought it

An early K-38 is next on my list. Like the K-22 so much I want its big brother.

Im not one to go by as Im new at vintage S&W revolvers but if 96% Id pay $600

It depends on the vintage of K-38 Masterpiece, but many if not most pre-model stamped guns were in gold boxes. The price sounds fair as you describe the gun. Let's see the photos tomorrow! :)

If it has the gold box w/tools, definitely take it at $600. Even without, it's OK if it's really 95+%. SN on box should match.

I didn't see a serial on the box. Where would it be?? No tools..no papers. I guess I will have to go buy this thing I guess. I have also bought a 14-3 from a friend for 450. Not quite as nice as the one I found today at the gun show

Serial numbers were written in black grease pencil on the bottom of the box. More often than not they have been worn off or have become illegible. Regardless, the box itself will bring $100 on any given day, more if in excellent condition. The price of $600 is more than fair, imo.
f.t.

Well the box is ok..not perfect but nice nuff. I did not look at the bottom as the box bottom was inside the top. I don't like to manhandle people's stuff at gun shows.. I will look tomorrow to check it out. Hope it is still there.. If not..I messed up...again.

It was not to be..I didn't get the K38.. At least this one. I did however did get a M14-3 today..no box but the price was pretty good. I will post on it later this week. Along with the 29-3s I got

Nope..not sold..just decided to keep it, I guess. Other than me he got no interest in the gun..S&W prices were waaaayyyy high at the show. And they weren't selling either..other than the 27-2 3 1/2 inch gun I missed... But on another note I did get a Win 54 in 30-30 for a very fair price...

A 14-3 is a very very good consolation prize.

Thanks.. I would take a pic or so but the batteries in the digital gave up the ghost..and I don't have another set. I did get one pic of the 29-3s and posted them in the 1980 section. I am kinda happy about the 14..the 38 is so easy to shoot. unlike those 3 inch 29s ...Bed time I think
