Hey guys I know next to nothing about revolvers. I bought a 642 about a month ago, its only got about 100 rounds through it. The question is about the back side of the barrel where it meets the cylinder. Its a little rough and scratched where they meet, is this normal or is something wrong with my snub? Thanks in advance.

It's OK

I am not an expert, but I think I can help. The breech end of the barrel is called the forcing cone. I have owned four J frames, and every one of them had the rough scratches you are describing. Since that's four of four, it has to be normal. I would not worry about it. You don't want the forcing cone to contact the cylinder face, however. There should be a barrel cylinder gap that you can see when holding the revolver up to light. I would check this on each chamber one by one. Hope this helps.

The barrel-cylinder gap is set at the factory by the fitter using a file. As a result it is normal to see file marks running across the barrel breech.
