A friend of mine who is a gunsmith replaced the rear sight on my S&W 4506. While disassembling and cleaning the gun today I noticed that the ejector depressor plunger can move up and down when I press on it with a pin punch. Is this normal? What is the purpose of this part? Is it part of the magazine disconnect function?

Thanks.

That's exactly it. Perfectly normal. Magazine disconnect lever and ejector combined.
