I love my Smith’s but fell for a Wiley Clapp Gp 100 yesterday. It was bought from a reputable gun shop and I was told that it was new (definitely appeared as such). Inside the Crane there is what looks to be scratched in initials. Any thoughts on what that is?

I dunno, but that looks like someone's initials. Maybe this revolver was bought, personalized with a Dremel and a round bur, then traded/sold before it had a trip to the range.

I would check with Ruger. I'd be surprised if that was from the factory. I've been a GP-100 owner for about 35 years. Great gun!

I’ve never owned a GP100, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Ruger did that. They don’t seem too concerned with appearances when marking inconspicuous areas.

I say that based on the way they serialize cylinders for their single action revolvers. It often looks like it was done by a 10 year old with a bad case of the shakes.

I can make out three of the digit on this cylinder, but the other three marks…. I haven’t got a clue!

Found this on one of mine. Taken with and w/o flash. Looks like a quickly scribed:

344, or possibly a 374

...near as I can tell. Doesn't bother me in the least.

Just checked my GP100 WC. Just noticed similar scratching/etching(?) in that location. Looks like a 7 2 with an illegible symbol in front of them. Mine WAS bought new from a reputable dealer, so no shenanigans occurred. The gun is fantastic: can shoot 125gr .357 Magnum ammo all day long. Suggest you enjoy yours. Not to worry.
