If anyone wants an interesting perspective, the writings of Skeeter Skelton will be instructive. The early postwar (WWII) had a similar shortage situation. He wrote about it all the time. How he somehow ate Rameden Noodles all month to support his shooting habits on the GI bill. No ammo anyplace, except maybe an odd box once in a great while. Same for guns.
Then anyone remember how easy it was to get a Model 29 in the months following the first Dirty Harry movie? Even 44 Special ammo was out of stock, any Magnum rounds were unobtainable. 44 magnum dies were backordered and seemingly gone.
Anyone remember the hi-cap mag market from the mid 1990s? I had a 92 FS Inox. And I was buying mags cheap, like the ones with the Italian stamps. I had 14 of them, and I was a rich man. I had friends who would have killed for my stash. One big problem, I didn't like the way the Beretta shot or handled. I sold, and others were happy to get my mags.
Shortage of certain shooting related items are just far enough apart to make our memories wane.
This one will be a thing of the past, too. We may even be able to laugh about it at some point in the future. Probably.
