Welcome to Obama's America! My dealer is convinced the manufacturers have been ordered to cut production by the White House. He has even been getting in cheap Armscorp revolvers because that's all he can get. His regular distributors are rationing the good guns because they are having trouble getting resupplied too. I think it just a jittery populace stocking up.

I have been searching online wholasalers for months for a .45 XD with thumb safety and a Kahr P45. I got lucky with the Kahr a couple days ago and ordered one as soon as I got the e-mail. They sold out in a couple of hours.

I've also been waiting for a Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail to show up on GunGenie, it's been about four months now, I'm sure one will appear soon.

If there is something you want most places will save your e-mail address and let you know when it comes in. Act fast!

Just got back from Knob Creek range south of Louisville. Here around Indy, stores are low in stock on guns, ammo and reloading supplies.

Knob Creek was fully stocked. I asked them about it and they said the "panic" really hadn't hit them. I picked up some badly needed small pistol primers and tried out their 500 yard range. Not a bad day for a road trip.

PS: The big spring machine gun shoot starts Friday and runs through Sunday.

I hate to sound like a jerk but how long have you been under that rock?

Guns have been flying off the shelves for months now.

Tin foil will not save you, you're done.

Should have bought my colander anti mind control hat when it was available on Ebay. Foolish mortals, too late now. Obama told me that I couldn't relist it.

Moo ha ha ha.

If anyone wants an interesting perspective, the writings of Skeeter Skelton will be instructive. The early postwar (WWII) had a similar shortage situation. He wrote about it all the time. How he somehow ate Rameden Noodles all month to support his shooting habits on the GI bill. No ammo anyplace, except maybe an odd box once in a great while. Same for guns.

Then anyone remember how easy it was to get a Model 29 in the months following the first Dirty Harry movie? Even 44 Special ammo was out of stock, any Magnum rounds were unobtainable. 44 magnum dies were backordered and seemingly gone.

Anyone remember the hi-cap mag market from the mid 1990s? I had a 92 FS Inox. And I was buying mags cheap, like the ones with the Italian stamps. I had 14 of them, and I was a rich man. I had friends who would have killed for my stash. One big problem, I didn't like the way the Beretta shot or handled. I sold, and others were happy to get my mags.

Shortage of certain shooting related items are just far enough apart to make our memories wane.

This one will be a thing of the past, too. We may even be able to laugh about it at some point in the future. Probably.

went to my local gun shop yesterday [Sat] They had just in a case of 9MM. 20 boxes. A young gal came in & asked for 9's. She got on her cell phone & asked if she could buy all 13 boxes left. Evidently she couldn't only left with seven. Don't think they have many left, will check tomrrow.

I could sell a lot of guns and ammo if I could get it. It seems the distributors are rationing the good stuff to the higher volume dealers and pissing on the smaller guys and telling them it's only rain. Sign of the current times I guess. It'll get better one day.

My local dealer seems to have a good selection of rifles, including AR types, and pistols.
The pistol selection was helped along by a guy bringing in a bunch of .22s to put on consignment.
I missed a nice Colt Woodsman by a day.

When S&W reported their 3rd quarter earnings on March 12th they state their "current" backorders jumped to $123 million...up from $22 million 3 months ago. S&W and Ruger are at "full capacity production" for the balance of the year. S&W is using their Thompson Center facility for all M&P15 barrels...the hottest product they have. CCW revolvers sales were +45% for the 3 month period!

One comment the S&W executive made was the huge increase of "first time buyers". These buyers (like myself several years ago) tend to purchase additional firearms once they become comfortable with their first gun purchase so this sales surge will probably continue for some time. I purchased my first handgun (Browning 9mm) in 2003 and have purchased 7 new handguns, rifles & shotguns in the past 3 years and still awaiting delivery on my new M&P15T which is 11 weeks and counting!

Last Thursday I went by the Wal-Mart in Seguin. I couldn't believe my eyes. They had 4 boxes of 357 Mag. There were a few other odd calibers and plenty of shotgun shells. I finally found the clerk a few aisles over and asked if I could get some bullets. Without even asking he already knew I wanted the 357's. He figured I wanted all 4 boxes, but I settled for 3. I'm sure it made someone else's day. I've been reluctant to practice with what little I had. Now I can get in a little practice first chance I get.

Local shop here in north east PA has had no shortage whatsoever on either guns or ammo. It's like the whole shortage thing circled around us. His prices are up, reflecting what the wholesalers are doing to him, but still reasonable increases.
