Question about rifle purchase

A friend and I went last weekend to shoot in our local indoor range. I brought my 15-22 and we really enjoyed shooting it. He wants to get one but he was afraid coz he had a misdemeanor about 12 years ago.

Is there a chance for him to get a gun? What does he have to do?

I know when I got mine, they just did a background check and since mine was clean, I didn't have a problem and Big 5 just held the gun for 10 days.

Any suggestions and ideas will be appreciated.

It depends on where you are and what he was convicted of.

Generally, a misdemeanor doesn’t disqualify a person from owning or buying a firearm, but there are exceptions. A misdemeanor domestic violence conviction prohibits a person from owning a gun (Lautenberg).

We are located in California. I don't know what case he had. He just told me he had a misdemeanor.

Well talked to my friend this morning. Turned out that he did have a domestic violence.

I feel sorry for the guy. Can't own a gun for the rest of his life.
