Three weeks ago I bought an NIB Pro Series 1911 9mm from a local gun store in Scottsdale at MSRP. The gun fires, feeds, and ejects well, pretty accurate (POA = POI) & good trigger. But, having other problems with slide-lock-open-last-round, I called S&W customer service and they sent a return authorization label.
My question: will S&W simply fix the basic problem or will they be fair and give me back a gun with proper fit & finish as well? I'm a little leery of sending the pistol back, given that it was placed out for sale with these other problems I found.
Main functional -
The slide catch lobe "eats" the plastic follower on the magazine, and after about 300 rounds, has been so shaved down that the follower hole won't push on the slide catch lobe to hold open after last round has fired.
I purchased and used a Chip McCormack all-metal mag and the slide catch/slide work just fine; the all-metal follower is showing some wear from that lobe.
The safety does not lock down in the "off" position tightly, but migrates up and blocks the trigger from firing, without being "on", randomly (I checked my finger placement - not pushing it up).
Possible structural -
The breech face has 2-3 deep, vertical grooves (machine tool / cracks?) on the ejector side.
The frame has a gouge or crack in the slide support area right above the trigger.
Fit / Finish -
The slide catch has also shaved the underside of the slide and has started a burr in the slide notch.
There are three (3) center punch marks over the steel surrounding the little flip-up firing pin plunger.
Burrs in the slide channels & the magazine well.
Heavy file or tool marks in the slide where the barrel bushing fits.
Wavy, parallel grooves on the slide on either side of the ejection port.
Metal burrs in the frame have shaved off some of the trigger flats. Other burrs shaved the grip safety. 1/8" wide x 1/32" deep grooves in both pieces.
Thanks for any input.
