I will be in Ga. next month. I will be carrying on a FL non-resident CCW. Can you carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol and if stopped by an leo do you have to notify that you are carrying? Any other tips would be appreciated.

Yes, your Florida concealed carry license is valid and recognized in Georgia, in fact Georgia recognizes ALL States licences that recognize the Georgia License, which is most of them. Now, unless there is a notice for no firearms on premises (rare but some do exist)you are not in violation if the establishment sells more food than liquor or beer. In other words, just because the little bar sells hamburgers and frozen pizza along with the beer does not qualify it as a restaurant, and there you would not be legal.
My experience has been any time I have an official conversation with any LEO, I think it is a good idea to mention that I am licensed to carry and am doing so. I have yet to have one even ask to see the weapon, or the license. I have been told by several, the fact I volenteered the information made them feel at ease in my presence.

Please also note that signs carry no weight in Georgia and you can not be charged with any violation just by carrying there. The worst that can happen if they notice you carrying is they can ask you to leave. If they do, leave or you could then be charged with trespassing.

I carry open frequently and have never had a problem. There's no requirement in Georgia to notify an officer that you're carrying if stopped, but if asked, of course, answer honestly. I helped with an accident today and three county officers and a trooper arrived and no one said anything, but thanks.

To answer your question. Yes, you can carry concealed in a restaurant that also serves alcohol. But, you can not consume liquor while in that establishment. When I am carrying I only drink sweet tea or cokes, my wife is packin' when I want to have a few beers with my dinner, and is also the designated driver.

Creekekid,

You should be arrested for drinking sweet tea!

But it's good you mentioned that while carrying
you can't have an alcoholic drink. That's an
important part of the law.

Hey, I moved here from IL 25 years ago and it is an addiction I can't kick. I must say, it makes me carry more when we go out to eat, now that they have changed the law.
