Why did you choose a Glock? Please, give and intelligent response other than Glock is perfection . I know better.

I ask because I just bought a G19 this past weekend. I've always respected the gun and have bought and sold several. But this one I'm keeping. Why?

With other guns like the Glock it's not quite as easy to find extra/spare parts and those parts are not as easy to change as they are the Glock.

I wanted Truglo TFO sights. The gun shop had them and installed them. I wanted a 3.5 Ghost trigger. The gun shop have one and installed it. Could have done myself and have several times. But installation was free.:D

Truth be told the Glock feels ok in my hands. Just ok. The XD9 and the M&P 9 feel much better. But unfortunely you can't walk into most gun shops and find parts for those guns. And before you mention the interent, I don't like to purchase things I can't hold in my hand and look at.

Is the Glock the only gun I have? Hell no! I gotta have some soul left in me!

Some may not agree and that's ok. This is just about me and my new Glock.

I bought my first Glock 3 or 4 years ago because:

1. It seemed half the population loves them.
2. It seemed half the population hated them.
3. I had never owned or fired one.
4. I'm really a revolver guy.

The local gun pusher had a 1st Gen G30 with 2 mags for $400.00.

Is it a "pretty" gun? No. I have no intention of entering it into a beauty contest so I just shoot it. It goes bang every time. It feeds every time. It ejects the empties every time.

Recently I had the chance to buy a 3rd Gen G22 with 3 of those evil hi cap mags for CHEAP. My son took it with him to his State Corrections Academy and fired about 900 rounds through it in 4 days. Same results as with the G30. And, he finished 3rd in the class on firearms.

So, I have never intentionally gone out and looked for a Glock. But, I will never pass one up when the deal is just right.

I bought mine (G23) because I wanted to see what all the hoopla was about. I came to the conclusion that it was an adequate handgun for martial use. I have since aquired a G22 and G27.

I also own a Jennings. Go figure.

I got a used Model 19 several years ago because I got a good deal on it and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. I have not shot it a great deal and it is not my favorite gun. However, I am sure it will always fire and I have faith in it.

What gen did you end up getting? I have a glock 19 gen 4 and its a pretty good little gun. The reason i went with a G19 was same reason as yours, parts for them are everywere....its hard to beat. I think it will eventually be like that for the M&P line but you have to remember Glock has a few years ahead of the M&P line so it will take a few years before parts are equally available. Happy Shooting :D

I've had several M&P's and I love them. The only one I have left is an M&P 9 full size. But after I put Lasergrips on it, my wife swiped it from me!:o

I got a gen 3. She tried to eyeball it and told her to get back!!

I currently own, and carry most of the time, a Glock 23. It is the size and weight of a K38 2" with more than double the capacity, and each round is a larger caliber. It is flatter and carries easier, reloads faster, and is more durable, IMO. I wouldn't feel bad at all dropping a Glock, or even chucking it, and I would have no doubt it would continue working.

I have mine outfitted with an NY1 spring, the plug, and DeFoor sights, and stoked with the current FBI load, and have the utmost confidence in its ability to function when called upon.

I'm glad I still had plenty of Win Ranger 127 +P+!!

Got a 23 in 40cal and it shoots great. I was looking for a carry gun that wasn't real expensive and it filled the bill. So far never had a misfire or a failure to feed and that's all I was really looking for.

Is it pretty? No but it is a concealed gun so it doesn't need to be pretty because if things go right no one will ever see it.

Is it my only gun? No of course not I have Smith's, Colt's, High Standards and a few others.

But as a carry gun it fills my needs.

I own Glocks and other guns, but mostly S&W's.

I own a 19 and personally think it's the best compact gun on the market. As you said, it's opinion, I personally think XD's are terrible ergonomically. I own 4 M&P's, but they are all full sized. I think the smaller M&P's fail ergonomically, just my opinion again. The G19 replaced a gun I thought was irreplaceable, my 6906. However, it's lighter, holds more ammo etc.

Reasoning for Glocks, here's my thoughts.

Glock modifications are far cheaper and more available than it's peers.
They are extremely reliable.
Easy to maintain.
Affordable.

All that said, I own specific Glocks for specific reasons. The 19 for the reasons above. The 20 because I don't know of anything close to it in production. Compared to S&W 10mm's they hold hold far more rounds and are not heavy as boat anchors. I've owned 1076's, nice, but just too heavy. Offer me an M&P 10mm and I might sell the Glock, I know I prefer my M&P 45 to my G21. The G20 also handles recoil better than the EA's etc. Finally, the G21 was the first Hi-Cap .45 that was not a 1911.

You hit my two mandatory Glock mods, 3.5 trigger and the TFO's.

About 10 years ago i shot a friend's G19. I was impressed with how well I shot it, and how much fun it was. Picked one up shortly after, and have thousands of trouble free rounds through it. Tough, reliable, concealable, 15+1 of +P 9mm. Imo, What's not to like?

I owned a Ruger SR40c for a while, my first high cap poly pistol, I shot it ok. My friends have XD's, I shot them ok. One of my coworkers father in-law is ex LEO, and has a lot of experience, he carries a G22 everyday, I believe it is a Gen 2. He was teaching me some of the techniques to sharpen my skill. He offered me his Glock at the range one day, I had never had one in my hand. Didn't feel any better or worse than the Ruger, I really prefer the grip on the XD out of the 3. I immediately was able to consistently group the Glock better than the others. Its just that the Glock, and myself made a better combination. I still could not tell you that it was the grip, the angle, or the gun that made the improvement. It could be a combination of everything. Everyone is different, and for someone like me who doesn't have a lot to go on as far as bias towards anything or experience, it was like taking the Pepsi Challenge. It just works better. In no way am I saying Glock is perfect for everyone, just the opposite really. Try a few, be honest with yourself, and buy what works best. I purchased a G22 Gen 4 added some night sights and sold the pretty shiny Ruger that I really thought was a nice looking gun. The Glock rides in the door panel of my truck everyday, and I am not afraid to scratch it up, or get it dirty. Now I am searching for something for CCW, and will probably use the same method to make my choice. Go to the range, shoot all the compacts I can, buy the one that works best for me.

Just my opinion......

A few years back I stumbled onto a decent deal on a "compliant LE turn in" G26 in my state which does not allow sale of new Glocks to anyone but LE. ( Even used Glocks have to be pre-98' vintage) I was curious how it stacked up against my M&P9C and knew I was not likely to get a chance to purchase one again for some time. Additionally, the 26 was the first Glock that I had handled that actually felt decent in my hand. I brought it home with the full intent to do some range trials and then flip it. Oddly, I ended up liking it enough that I decided to keep it for occasional carry and range plinking.
Also worth noting is that now that Glocks are getting pretty easy to come by in state, I have had no desire to get another sample/model. Bottom line impression: The best shooting, most reliable gun that I'll never fall in love with.

I bought mine for carry on duty as an LEO and in the Military. Goes bang every time, way lighter than an M9 or Model 686 (important on the extended shifts). Tough as nails and you can't kill em easily. Blew the magazine out of mine and cracked the trigger (over pressure hand load, it's a long story). Still functioned until I had the trigger replaced and it's still going strong. Kind of like my 2000' Blazer 340,000 miles and still going strong:) Not pretty, just durable and reliable.

I bought a Glock because I wanted a gun I didnt have to worry about scratching . The G27 that sits on the floor next to me at night when Im laying on the couch, then goes to the night stand when I go to bed The G27 is also my carry gun . Im buying a Ruger LCR for the same reasons as I did the Glock .

I was issued a Gen 2 Glock 22 .40 and hated the very idea of the ugly thing UNTIL I realized that it was a tool & my life now depends on it. So....I took it to the range several times and shot it until I unlearned everything I knew about trigger control and shooting other types of handguns. Then, the groups got smaller & smaller even under timed fire courses! I consistantly qualify in the mid to high 90's with it. Since that time, I bought a Glock 33 .357Sig as a backup/off duty gun and love it! It has the stopping power of a mid range .357 Mag in a smaller package w/ a 9+1 capacity & operates exactly like the G22. Nothing new to learn/remember under stress...... :)

I also now have a G29 & G36 too. :)
