Hi:
What is Your CCW and mode of carry?
Do you use the same mode of carry with different mode of clothing outfits?
I am attempting to find the best mode of carry for My Wife and Daughter.
Thank you,
Jimmy

Right now it's a Mod. 60. Depending on what I'm doing and where I'm going, I carry in a purse or fanny pack in the summer.

No matter which gun I'm carrying, from the 637 to the Walther PPS, all my guns are carried on my body in an IWB holster. If I'm driving long distances, I like the 60LS in a cross draw DeSantis Skycop. An untucked type of blouse or a blazer works great. Having had my purse stolen on a couple of occasions, and having to have very quick access to the weapon on a few occasions, I don't feel comfortable carrying off body.

And if I get really lucky, I'll some day be able to communicate to my bride what Barb said about purse carry above? But, I'm likely being too critical? I should be grateful she "packs" regardless of how whenever she's away from home. I just hate the thought of some favorite people being separated from their means of defense. Whether they live in Washington or Tennessee?

Point well taken Spotteddog.;)
(I have a couple of reasons for my choice, but don't want to hi-jack jimmyj's thread)

Ok, thanks jimmyj! There's a couple reasons for my carrying in purse or fanny pack. I haven't had my Mod 60 that long, and haven't got a holster for it yet. When I do, I'll get an IWB. Another reason is my size. Not only am I "large" on top, I'm also tall at 5'10". I have a terrible time finding tops that are long enough. Especially spring and summer tops. Seems like most tops are made for short women with small boobs. I'm not entirely comfortable carrying IWB when I reach above my head or bend over and my top rides up over my gun. I know that a purse isn't the best method for CCW. But it's better than not carrying. As for the fanny pack, I really like it when I'm just out for a walk or going to an event such as a car or gun show or flea market. I can carry everything I need and still have my hands free. I will be getting a IWB holster though, and when I do, I'm sure I'll carry on body more. Like I said, it's also a matter of finding tops long enough, and cool enough, to wear in hot weather.

Hi:
Have You considered a "Belly Band" holster?
I use one when in Uniform, worn over My "Bullet Resistant" vest for a "J" frame 2" Bug.
I previously used a holster that the vest two straps held the holster but than the Agency issued a different type vest that instead of two straps, the new one had one wide strap.

well I am 6'1" and I have found that a fullsize SW99 IWB at 15 deg cant at my 5:00 hides VERY well with nearly anything, with the exception of tight clothing, hope it helps.

I'd venture to say you don't have the ample assets that Gunlovingirl has and therefore having the clothing issues she has. I can say as a male, I'm not really complaining about her problem but I could definitely see it as an issue for her.

I'm not a girl but I made a holster similar to the one pictured below for my wife's 642. She carries in this holster at around 1:00-2:00 O'clock. I made a couple of holsters for her before I found something she was comfortable with because of her shape. She loves this one. It has adjustable cant and ride depth and works in multiple carry positions. The picture is from my website and is shown with a PM9 mold but can be made for larger pistols and small revolvers as well.

My wife bought some mens tops for a longer shirt to cover her iwb when she doesn't have a jacket on.

Of the women I know who carry:

1) Model 36 2" or High Standard Derringer: Purse 90% of the time, OTB holster 10%

2) 1911 Commander: OTB 100%

3) SIG 239: Center of Back 100%

4) Colt Defender: OTB 95% KelTec .32: IWB 5%

5) Kimber ProCarry: OWB 75% S&W 342 Eagle UHA leg holster 25% (now made by Blackhawk. Not an ankle holster but an upside down leg holster. Fits great under scrub pants in the hospital) This woman also purse carried until she was in a rush leaving a supermarket and left the purse in the carriage...some places that have of cost her the CCW...

6) Kimber Aegis: OWB 100%

7) Bersa 9mm: OWB 100%

That is all I can think of right now. Most of the female LEOs I have known either didn't carry OD or just dropped it in their purse. Sad....

I carry a S&W M&P 9c.. I use an inside the waist band holster for everyday, and I have a Blackhawk paddle holster for IDPA. I do dress differently when I'm carrying.. While my pistol is on the small side, it isn't easy to hide on my body, I am very short. I am looking into ankle, and thigh holsters for the summer.. I am nervouse about a purse, because I have had my purse stolen.

I found www.corneredcat.com some time ago and recommended it to my wife and daughter.

They LOVE the site and REALLY like the idea of getting drawn into the decsions process of how to decide on what was best for them.

It was pretty clear to me that I wasn't going to be able to choose for them, since comfort was a big part of the process.

The cornered cat site is very big, philisophically, on empowering woman to get educated regarding firearms and to get personally involved in deciding what firearms, holsters, etc. would best suit them and their unique needs.

Good luck.

My wife carries hers in a Blackhawk fanny pack. However, she just uses it as a purse--she hardly ever wears it like a fanny pack.
