Question for Vets, how do y'all feel about civilians wearing military stuff?

I did that in my 9th gade year--dressed up as a fat G.I--my dads WWI steeI pot, o.d. combat blouse, camo pants, cartridge belt, my dads binoculars and 2 WW 2 dummy grenades.

Senior year we put on Stalag 17==with a (empty!) vet bring-back Browning Hi-Power, an old 1903 stock, a couple of bayonets. Back before teachers got so paranoid.

I work at a business that is next door to a V.A out patience clinic. I see lots of folks going in and out some have ball caps with Military unit patches, some don't.
One day a young man (old enough to be a veteran) came into my place of employment wearing a U.S. field jacket, had the U.S. Army ribbon over left pocket and a name tag over the right. I knew that wasn't his last name so I asked him why he was wearing a jacket like that and did he know he could get into trouble... he told me he didn't care, he was wearing in in memory of the guy that owned it. He was his best friend and had served in desert storm and after. he'd killed himself shortly after returning.

I didn't press it any further.

Military uniforms should not be worn with insignia on them. The
only thing that really bothers me is punks showing intentional
disrespect for the uniform. If people want to be a cowboy or
commando it's no skin off my nose.
