In a previous thread there was discussion on King sights.

I have this one here and can’t seem to figure out which gun it will fit. There is a number “8” stamped underneath. I also have a copy of a King Sight sheet but see no mention of a number “8”. It only mentions sights “No. 105 A, B, C, and M”

We’re these made to go over an existing “dime” sight or installed directly on the barrel? There is a slot in the bottom of the King sight. I’m guessing this made for inserting a new beaded front blade.

It was suggested that I try and slide it over a few standard sighted guns but they all have a square base as part of the sight. Plus a lot of the sights are thicker and won’t fit. The underneath of this King sight is curved and meant to go on the barrel and not for ribbed barrels.

Thanks for the help and comments!

Linda, it maybe for a rifle like a Remington model 8. Reflector sights are listed for rifles as well. I’ll look in my references tonight after work to confirm.

The February-March 2010 issue of Handloader, Issue Number 264, carries a well-illustrated article, King Gun Sight's Colt SAAs, by Charles E. Petty. For anyone with any interest in or curiousity about the King Gun Sight Company or the Colt Single Action Army revolver, this article is a treasure trove. Petty is a good writer who uses his long experience as a pistolsmith and handgunner to clearly illustrate and explain.

Of course the other articles, such as,among others, those about handloading the .38-40 (Mike Venturino), .45 ACP (Brian Pearce)and .38 Special (Mike Thomas) cartridges, are well worth reading.

On S&W part of the front sight base is ground down on some I had come across. Also looking at Digi shots sight it has not ever been installed as I do not see the two screw holes that attach to the sight to the bbl. I do think its likely for a smith though.
