I have an M&P 22 compact, the last time I cleaned it then took it to the range it would no longer lock open after the last round.
Any ideas ?

Did you clean the magazines or take them apart? Perhaps the follower in the magazine is no longer interacting with the slide stop/release as it should. Dirt or debris perhaps? Mag spring not positioned/reassembled properly?

Another possible explaination would be the slide is not coming back far enough during firing to reach the point where the slide will latch open.....although still moving far enough to fire and eject properly?

Thanks for your reply.
I did not take the magazine apart, however I did not try a different mag to see if it made a difference, which I should have done. The mag didn't give me any problems last time I used it though. I will check out the mag, clean it, then try it again, hopefully tomorrow.
How would I be able to tell if the slide is not coming back far enough though ?

See if the slide locks with an empty mag, and pulling the slide by hand.

It does, I'm going to give my mag a good inspection & cleaning today then try again & try a different mag as well

I took the mags apart & cleaned them but still no help, in fact it got worse, not only would it not lock after last shot, but it stove piped a couple times then stopped feeding altogether. Took the gun all apart & scrubbed it real good, carefully oiled it and that did the trick. There was a brass bristle on the table from my brush when I was done, not sure if it was from today or if one was stuck in there from the last time I cleaned it. So anyway everything is good now.

As stated above by Armorer, most times it's related to the Magazine and that is where I'd start looking and cleaning. Clean the Catch that locks into the Magazine as well and to prove this out try another clean Magazine.

It wasn't the mag, as I stated in my last post, all is good now, thanks
