Question on 25-2 asking price vs. Real Price

Hi all, my LGS, (in addition to an amazing model 10 snub nose), has a model 25-2 in wooden presentation box with tools and papers. It is about 97%. I am seeing this revolvers at about 1200 to 1300 on a famous auction site. The store is asking 850 for this one.

While I would much rather have a model 57 in .41 magnum, is this price too good to pass up? Or is the "real value" about what they are asking for this?

I have the money, let me know what you all would do. Thank you !

25-2 price would be extremely fair. I would pay that in a blink of the eye. You would never regret it.

Haha, okay I get it. I'm going to make them an offer they cant refuse for both revolvers. I think I can get a break on the price for both if I make it a package deal.

You don't mention the barrel length. Shorter barrels tend to bring more money. The box, papers, and tools do enhance the value.

If I liked it, I would buy it at that price.

The 25-2 was made in 6.5" barrel length and then 6". If it's an earlier 6.5" even better. A different barrel length should be considered unoriginal until proven otherwise.

Sold!!! I went back today for both guns and the 25-2 was SOLD! I did however get the model 10 no dash (posted in another sub forum here).


The moral of the story "Don't Wait". It was the store owner's son who bought it, no less.

Hard to decide between impulse buying and procrastinating sometimes. When you snooze, you loose and when you snore, you loose more. Sometimes I wish I was more impulse orientated! Hate you lost the big gun but give us pics of the Model 10.

As a good rule of thumb.. any "pinned barrel" N frame, in 95+% condition with a presentation case and tools worth is $900 minimum anywhere anytime. Many/ most are worth more.

I have many times gone back to buy and it had been sold. Very disappointing, but if you snooze, you lose!

850 with a case is not a bad price if'n you got to have one. I don't think you can get one by itself for much less than what they were asking. For us old guys, prices now make us look like we knew what we were doing in the earlier days.....never thought to keep the boxes though.

The outlier reporting in. Don't sweat the 25-2. S&W made MUCH better revolvers. You missed it, that's true, but so what? Now you still have money for your Model 57 - maybe "one of the best" revolvers S&W ever made. I don't see the harm. Good luck finding that 57 that you REALLY want.

My 57 and 58 are a bit more worn than my 25-2s....you gotta love a .41 mag.

If your ever in the same boat my recommendation is call them and have them put it aside for you. Done it many times.
