Wondering about matching grips to revolver with the serial number. I looked at my 15-3 with a serial # of 1K859**. Revolver is a 1971 date. The numbers I found in the grips were 69404. I think mine are non-diamond checkered Magna's. Am I right? My question is did grip numbers always match the serial or??? Thanks,

The 15 generally came with the square cut magnas, not the rounded service grips. In 1971 they were still numbering grips so ideally they should match. That said grips get swapped out frequently for all sorts of reasons. I don't lose any sleep over it.

To me the best grips/ stocks for any gun is the set that feels best in your hand. I do have original S&W grips for my revolvers, but most wear aftermarket for that reason. Bob

I can just about guarantee the stocks you have were originally on a Model 10 with serial number D69404. That would have a 1968 ship date. They are non-diamond PC Magna stocks, which normally shipped on fixed sight units.

JP@AK, Do you have a picture of what the correct grips would be? Thanks
