I plan on loading a 255 lswc(bn10) over 8g of unique and also over 8g of W231 over a CCI300 PRIMER. Anyone have any thoughts on this load. I plan on shooting it out of my S&W model 25-13 and a Uberti 45 colt.

Looking for advice.

HELP!!!!!

The .45 Colt is my favorite round, and I own several. I have been loading this round for about 21 years, in several different types of revo's, from the 25 platform's all the way to the Redhawk, which is on a whole different plane.

I regularly use 9 grains of Unique under a 255 cast swc, Fed 150 primers, WW cases and I am getting 865 fps across the Oehler 35P.

I use 8 grains of 231, with the same components for about the same velocity.

These loads were fired out of my 4" 25-5, which has the same barrel length as yours. Both loads are very good loads, and shoot well out of all my 25's.:)

12.5 grains of HS-6 gives me right at 1,000 fps with the same components, and is running right around the same pressure as the Unique load according to the source I got the loads from.

18.5 grains of 2400 will show about 1100 across the chrono with the same components.

wls - that is my go-to loading in my Mountain Gun, it's hard to beat 8 grains of Unique. I use either the LSWC or RNFP, depending on what I've got handy. WG

Sir, I haven't tried 231 in .45 Colt, but 8.0 grains of Unique with a cast 250 is a good load--I've shot a lot of those over the years. Just so you know, going up to 8.5 grains of Unique greatly reduces smoke and fouling. The fouling doesn't bother me so much, but I don't like a lot of smoke when shooting at an indoor range.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Just started loading this round and to be honest, I am at the other end of the spectrum right now.

There are a ton of good loads out there for this caliber, that's for sure. Everything from mild to wild!

My loads are just a tad different as I cast a 240gr LSWC from an H&G #502 mould. It is a Keith design but more for the 45AR. It shoots wonderfully out of my M625JM and Ruger 45 Convertible.

My "go to load" for the Ruger is 9.0gr Unique under that 240gr bullet. Should get me just over 1000fps from my firearms.

I am having a fun time with my Puma '92 in the same caliber. Going to work up some hunting stuff for deer next year.

Have fun!
