Question regarding Mika Holsters

I'm sure there's a trade name for whatever it is but the best way I can describe it is some kind of heavy lined vinyl-type material with a simulated leather grain on the outside.

Thanks. Great picture...does kinda look like vinyl. How do you like this holster?

I really like my Uncle Mike's pocket holster. Might be in the market for a Mika if it conceals better.

I don't yet have a CPL so I don't have extensive experience with the holster but wearing it around the house, I've found the shape fits nicely in a front jeans pocket. It's a bit bulkier than it looks, but not too bulky. Again, I think the shape is the key to this design- it nearly perfectly matches the cut of a jeans pocket if you look at one inside-out. The holster stays put with the help of the grippy band of softer web-like material wrapped around the holster, doesn't print the shape of a gun, is lightweight and fairly flexible and the draw is nice.

Regarding the draw, I assume it's due to the liner material, but when you insert the gun in the holster, it reaches the point where it bottoms out and seems to "grab" the gun and hold it firmly in place. A slight tug fully releases the gun and the same material that a moment ago was grabbing the gun now feels slick as snot making for a fast trouble-free draw. From what I've read, folks who've used these for awhile say they break-in with use and this works even better over time. It's hard to describe but it's almost as if there's an invisible lock that keeps the gun in place but when tugged, it breaks free and suddenly the gun is surrounded by nothing but air, a really smooth draw, totally unlike sometimes sticky leather, bulky soft nylon weave or a stiff material like Kydex.

I don't know what else to say. A lot of old cops seem to like them and that was good enough reason for me to check them out. Robert Mika's a good guy to deal with, too- good communication and all that. For the price, give it a try. You can always resell it for most, if not all, of your money back were you to not like it.

Thanks brother...I think I will order one today.

Did you get round cut or square? Does square print less and hold to the pocket better?

Mika holsters seem pretty bulky when you first start to use them, but after a few days, they conform to the gun and to your leg and are very discreet.
They stay put when you draw and re-holstering is very easy.

I think you will like a Mika if you get one.

Robert will tell you that the round cut will work in a round or square cut pocket, but the square cut doesn't work well in a round pocket.

Makes sense when you think about it.

I wear Wranglers with a round cut and it works well.

Just to show you what kind of a guy Robert is, when I ordered my holster, he said don't pay me yet. When you get it try it out for a week, if you like it, send me a check, if you don't like it, give it to someone else to try it. There wasn't any way the world I wasn't going to send that man a check.

Great Holster

...but a G26 in most pocket holsters just don't work for me. They work great for my J frames.
Chris

I use a Mika holster with my Model 36. You can't beat it for the price and Robert is a great guy to deal with.

Four holsters for my J-frame, and it's the one I use most often.

Just ordered a Mika's round cut right now...sort of a belated Christmas present from my wife to myself...she just doesn't know it yet!:D

Robert Mika just called me not 5 minutes after I placed my order...on New Year's Eve! While he was at work!

Really nice fella too. I really wish him the best in his business.

I've got two Mika holsters and the never wear out. I sometimes even carry a Ruger SP-101 (without hammer spur) in one. They are worth the money.

Hopefully all goes well with your order. It took a loooong time to get our two holsters last year.

They're Ugly (but the're in your pocket so you can't see that) they're inexpensive AND THEY WORK. It really doesn't get a whole lot better than that does it.:):):)

I like mine and Bob is a great guy to work with. Sometimes I use my Uncle Mikes when the Mika gets too bulky for some pants, but I prefer the Mika.

My favorite J Frame Holster. Works fine with CT grips, as I have them on both my 642-2 and M&P 340.
