I should know the answer to this because I own two AR's but I don't. What holds the takedown pin in the lower when you break it down. The front pin stays in place but the rear one comes completely out and is loose after it is pushed back in. I'm afraid it's going to fall out. Is it an "O" ring or something else? And, whatever it is , where do I get one?

Thanks

In a true ar, there is a spring and detent that is inserted behind the castle nut (and held in place by the castle nut). The castle nut locks the buffer tube onto the lower receiver.

On the 15-22, there are two springs and detents held in by the pistol grip. One is for the safety, and the other is for the rear takedown pin.

Hth.

Thank you for the help.

Yup, you're missing one of your springs that are held in by the pistol grip.

Spring is there, just no detent. Put new detent in and all is good. I just have to remember when I remove (if ever) the grip that little bits and pieces are going to fly everywhere.
