I recently purchased a used S & W 1006.
It's an earlier production pistol in pretty nice shape. It has a recoil spring guide rod that has the standard spring that slides around the guide rod, and the guide rod has an internal spring inside it. The guide rod is an assembly with multiple telescoping parts and appears to be held together with a roll pin. My research says this is a first design guide rod.
I also found a "washer" up inside the recoil spring tunnel. The guide rod has a small cross drilled hole at the front end. Was this originally a captive recoil spring? It isn't now.
Is it possible to change to the second design guide rod which is supposedly non-telescoping and made like a conventional solid guide rod?
And more importantly, where can I get one?
If I had accurate dimensions and am unable to purchase a new guide rod, I can machine one out of 17-4 PH stainless steel.

Thanks!
