How uncommon are the 4-inch blued early S-prefix Model 57s?
Is the 4-inch barrel less common than 6 1/2 ? Should one pay extra for that barrel length?
Looking at one in S248XXX serial range...
Thanks!

As a general rule the shorter the barrel the higher the selling price. A 4" 57 or 29 will bring more than the longer ones.

The 4-inch Model 57s were delivered in priority after the 6-inch guns, but are not uncommon. I would only pay a premium if it was finished in nickel as they are fairly uncommon in all barrel lengths.

Really? I always figure if a no account accumulator like me has one they can't be rare...

But........ is that an early nickel S prefix gun SP? It doesn't appear to be with the nickel front sight. I believe that's what Doc44 was referring to- the early one S prefix nickel 57's as being uncommon.
