I recently purchased this unfired Ruger Collectors Association Mark II .22 with (genuine) ivory grips with the RCA logo scrimshawed on one panel, and the RCA logo filled in with a gold color on the top of the receiver.
I bought it from a fairly large retailer who had purchased several Ruger .22 pistols from an estate. It has the cardboard Ruger Collector Association box, and wooden "salt cod" box, but no other paperwork.
I contacted Ruger, and their reply told me it was made in 1982, the first year of Mk II production, and the grips were Ruger grips, but had no other information.
I've purchased and received Bill Ruger's .22 Pistol by Don Findley, but there's no picture of this model. I've also purchased
Encyclopedia of Ruger Semi-Automatic Rimfire Pistols, 1949-1992 by Chad Hiddleson, but have not yet received that book.
I tried searching the RCA forum, but only found one ten year old post about this gun, and it did not have any conclusive information. The RCA home page does have an "Ask a Question" link, but it doesn't work for me, perhaps you have to be a member. Google searches haven't led to any info.
I was surprised to see a couple of well known names from this forum listed as contributing members on the RCA home page (but I shouldn't have been
) so I thought I'd ask about this gun here.
I had assumed this pistol wouldn't be a collectible without the original certificate, so it would make a very nice shooter, as I think most people who bought one in 1982 would have kept everything together, and unfired. I'm no collector, just a guy who likes guns. But if it was a really limited item, maybe I won't. I don't care about value, but I would want to preserve something if it was warranted. Thanks for any information you may have.
