Been looking for a j frame since my wife decided that my sig p938 was her new carry gun and with warm weather coming I don't want to lug around my m&p. Found an ad on armslist for a 642 so I messaged the guy and set up the meet for tomorrow. After getting pictures I noticed it had an exposed hammer and the gentleman said it was a mistake and it's actually a 637 which is fine by me as I like the option of single action. So I start d reading reviews on them just mostly out of boredom and most all I see have the plain brushed stainless cylinder and barrel but the one I'm picking up tomorrow almost looks like the two tone. To me it looks like titanium. Am I wrong here? Is it a 637? I know the model number is on the frame behind the crane but I don't want to text the guy this late and bug him so I though I'd bug you guys instead. Kinda looks like the 337 but it's clearly labeled air weight not air lite. Here's a few pics

Now that I see it on the bigger screen it does look like stainless anyways pretty stoked haven't had a snubby in a long while. Now what holster hmmmmm

Yeah most the ones I've seen online tonight look like the same finish across the whole gun the pics kinda threw me. Thanks for the imput

I have a 642 just like that and the finish is just like that. Very distinct. But for me finish is not something I even remotely care about

Looks good! You'd be surprised how well they shoot. I personally prefer the exposed hammer? I wouldn't know how to de-cock a hammerless and have gotten too used to it in other revolvers.
People say the hammer can snag- ive never had that issue.

Please be sure to check it over very carefully. There's a list somewhere (Is it a sticky?) here on examining used revolvers. I hesitate to buy anything used, because the prices that folks ask are little different from new...

If it is in good shape, they are great little carry guns. Holster or pocket. I have a 637-2 from 2011 that is mostly my bug, but also I sometimes pocket carry it if the situation arises.

They are very accurate when you learn to shoot them. I put a little spot of bright green nail polish over white on the top of the sight for a contrast reference point. Very easy to shoot one handed if necessary even with 158 grain rounds just have a good grip!

Well picked it up today and it's deffiently stainless. I've had a few of the all steel snubs but never have had a airweight and am honestly surprised by how lite it is. It's a 637-2 so it has the pointless lock on it but the bore is clean and shiny the lock up is better then my model 10-6 and the trigger is surprisingly smooth. He even threw in a decent leather owb holster. Pretty impressed with it so far. I paid 300 so think I got a pretty fair deal. I'll up load a few photos of it.

Congrats on buying such a wonderful gun at such a great price. You have entered a new, better world: the world of the Js. May the sidewalks of your new world be paved with countless J-frames. Remember there can never be too many J-frames, only not enough pockets to put them all in!

J-hound extraordinaire

P.S. Those rounds in your pics look like aluminum case CCI Blazers. For practice only, not carry. It's a long story.

Thanks guys I was pretty pleased. Been doing pretty good with the smiths lately. Got a pretty much flawless model 10-6 with rosewood altamont grips for 350 a while back too. I'm happy to have another j frame really missed my old model 36.

Another thing I was surprised about that I see a lot of people complaining about with these newer smiths is the cylinder to barrel gap. The gap on this one is almost non existent. Much less then my 76 77 produced model 10

Congrats! You did very well. Now all you need is a pocket holster... I find the inexpensive soft type work very well.

Love the J frames. I am really happy with my new 442PC. Did not care for the clip grip on it however. Seems to be a rather cheap grip tp put on a PC gun. I had a wood grip off of a M60pro. So I put that on the 442. Now I can get all three finger on the grip and still drops in my pocket just fine.

I like J-Frames best. Here's mine. I'm always changing grips around but this is how they looked the last time I took a picture.
