I read that earlier today. At 84, he was just reaching his prime. The Dead were known to imbibe a little, but they were pretty darn good musicians.

Was very saddened to hear this. Only originals left are Billy and Bobby. Mickey also counts since he joined in 1967. Like them or loath them, they were icons of a bygone age. And yes....I am an unrepentant Deadhead. Workingman's Dead remains a favorite

I had been a fan since the mid 70s and saw them a few times prior to Jerry's passing. I got to see Phil Lesh and Friends 2 years ago in Bethel Woods (Woodstock) along with the Midnight Ramble Band. Phil Lesh (82 at the time) was pretty much spot on all night. He was a true musical icon.
The night before was saw Joe Bonamassa, Kenny Wayne Shepard and Jason Bonham's Led Zep Experience at Jones Beach on Long Island.
It was a magical weekend with many highlights. Many provided by Mr. Lesh.
