I got a cheap "cage' rabbit-trap thing from tractor supply. There of plenty of rabbits where I live. i put some cut up apples in the thing. I mainly what to catch&release them just so my 3 yr old neice can pet and see them up close. BUT to date I have had NO success. Will a rabbit go into one of these things? Kinda bait to use? Its one of them cage looking traps. Thanks Ernie.........P.S. If i was using this for supper I would have starved to death by now

i'd watch letting her pet them if you do catch one. wild rabbits are not overly friendly and have some pretty big teeth.

as far as catching one, i am not sure what to use as bait. i grew up watching many bunnies on our property and hunting them elsewhere. baiting them in was never a thought. carrots were always used to catch bugs bunny.

I know the rabbits look cute and innocent, but they are pests also. If the live trap fails, when nobody is around, I recommend a RWS .177 pellet rifle. Super accurate/powerful, goes pop, problem solved. You'll never wipe them all out, just keep them managable.

Rabbits while they look cute can be a handful. I remember when I was a kid that rabbits love wild clover, but trapping them is something I never heard of, pest control was handled with a .22 or a .410.

The classic rabbit "box trap" works as well as anything. It gives them a hiding place, then keeps them there.

Although rare - rabbits (as with any warm blooded animal) can carry rabies.
I wouldn't let my niece pet a wild rabbit when she was 3.
She's 19 now and would most likely just shoot the bunny and reset the trap.

cotton balls with vanilla extract. you might want to take some old lumber and put along the sides, back and top. don't handle it with your bare hands either. wear gloves. it takes a while for the human scent to get off the trap. rabbits like a dark hole where they think they are safe. lee

When I was young (long time ago) I almost always had a few rabbit boxes set. I caught a bunch of 'em. Of course, back then they ended up in the frying pan. I made my own boxes out of scrap lumber, where ever I could find it. I used apples when I could find them but about any smelly fruit will work. One trick I used was to smoke the boxes over a fire to remove the human scent. You may also want to try putting brush arount the trap, pine works pretty good because of the aroma. I caught a lot of Rabbits but probably more possums.

I never had any luck with the wire box traps and I tried all kinds of bait. Looking back, I probably wasn't careful enough masking my scent.

My grand paw always baited with apples (usually the yellow ones) We had great success, but he made his own traps out of wood. Don,t know if that makes a difference or not.

Well I just found out SOMETHING.........them rabbits must not be to skerried of human scent on cabbage plants........cuzz they ate EVERYONE I had set out last nite (cryin face)........think I will try that for bait....and after 2nd tought........they are going in the freezer........NO PETTING ALLOWED !!!
