Bought a lb of ZIP the other day from my local shop to try. It is supposed to be Ramshot’s version of 231/HP38.

It meters really well and it definitely seems cleaner than 231.

Hodgdon data suggested a 6.2grs and a 185 LSWC

I ran it with 6.0grs. Pretty sporty, didn’t chrono it yet.

6 shots at 15yards from my 625
12 shots at 50yards also w my 625

Has anyone downloaded it any?

Ramshot Zip is a powder that I have used for years and years in lower pressure rounds , 38 special , 44 special , 45 acp and 45 LC with complete satisfaction . I buy 4 lb jugs when I can find it . It's one of those powders that doesn't get the credit it's due . Regards Paul

I've never used ZIP, but it's a bit faster than 231 so it will probably download okay, just have to try it. As for 231, I've used a lot of it and never found it dirtier or cleaner than other powders.

A fifteen yard group will seldom tell you anything other than everything is accurate up close. That fifty yard group, however, looks very promising, tells you plenty as to potential accuracy and provides you with a good basis for fine tuning your load. Good luck as you progress-

231/HP38 is my favorite powder and I buy it whenever I find it. Nice to know there is a kinda similar powder out there too.

I really want a ransom rest to shoot groups with, haven’t been able to find anyone with one near me though.

I had a Ransom rest with windage base and a variety of inserts years ago and eventually sold everything. It often takes a while for a handgun to "settle in" before you get good groups. Aside from that, it's certainly the best setup for fifty yard groups and it never suffers fatigue as we do.

However, if you're a skilled bench shooter with a handgun (many of us are not), your twenty-five yard groups will about equal what a Ransom will do at fifty. I had my doubts about this until I tried it, based on the advice and experience of two very good gunwriters who did a lot of shooting: the late Al Miller, former editor of HANDLOADER and RIFLE magazines and C.E. Harris who wrote for the American Rifleman and was on their technical staff when they had one and when the magazine was in its prime some years ago.

These guys were true recognized experts (long before the Internet and YouTube kind) who knew what they were talking about. Granted the Ransom has some advantages as mentioned, but I haven't missed mine.

5.0grs with the same 185gr SWC is a no go. Loads of unburned powder and accuracy decreased.

ZIP powder

hello everyone
the powder ZIP is very good for the 45 acp and too for the 40 sw i using this for reloading this two calibers and i'm very satisfied ,and too because she is manufactured in Belgium my country by the factory powder Clermont the old name was PCL

extrac of wilkipédia
PB Clermont is a Belgian propellant powder factory and one of the most important powder factories for small and medium calibers in the world. It is located in Engis in the Province of Liège in the village of Clermont-sous-Huy from which it takes its name.;)

I’ve come close to buying a can of Zip but have 8 pounds of 231. I like 231 for 45acp but have drifted away in other calibers due to position sensitivity and it’s really dirty in mild loads. I’m afraid over the years I’ve found specific powders I like best for specific cartridges and have accumulated way too many different powders.

I like trying different powders and in the last year I started looking for a replacement for my dwindling supply of Bullseye. I found Bullseye behind a 125 grain polymer coated lead 9mm bullet to give excellent accuracy and very mild recoil and velocities over 1000fps. I tried Accurate N100NF which was very accurate with mild recoil but was so mild it wouldn’t cycle my 1911’s reliably. Since though I find it very good in 28 special and 45LC.

Still searching for a suitable powder to replace BE in 9mm I tried Accurate #2 which I really love. It’s very mild with good accuracy and cycles my 1911’s 100% of the time. I’m finding it to be excellent with 158gr polymer coated lead and Berry’s plated bullets in 38 special as well. I think it has great promise in other cartridges too. Right now if I could only have one powder I’d use AA2.

I couldn’t find H110 for a while and wanted to load some 357 mag for my lever gun. I found Ramshot Enforcer and gave it a try and was very pleased but didn’t get the velocities that were typical of H110 although it make a very nice midrange magnum load.

I also like Accurate Arms powders but unfortunately they are not available where I live. IMR powders are the most prevalent followed by Winchester and Hodgdon. Even though they are now under the same umbrella the AA powders still don't seem to be available here.

I could get along quite well with AA#2, AA#5, AA#7 and AA#9 but that can't happen right now. Luckily I do have my powder trinity which is different than the original of Bullseye, Unique and 2400. My powder trinity is W231/HP-38, W540/HS-6 and W296/H110. In the future W244 and W572 will be thrown it too.

Along with Zip , I also really like Ramshot Enforcer . Accurate 4100 is the same powder / different label . In 357 magnum loads I load Enforcer right near the top , 13.5 grs using 158 gr cast bullet and get excellent performance . I have an OM colt trooper that dearly loves that load . No , it doesn't equal H110 in velocity but it sure is accurate and very very clean shooting . If you try it I think you will like it . Regards Paul
