Would you choose 165 gr or 180 gr American Eagle or is it a wash for a .40 Shield? Range use only.

I would shoot both and see which you prefer. The 180gr obviously is a little heavier round which sometimes leads to a softer recoil for some folks.I shoot 165gr in my .40 but thats me ya know.

More importantly, I would shoot at the range the same ammo I would use to protect my life. Seen far too many FTF JHP's that were too valuable for the shooter to shoot on a regular basis. Better to use less expensive rounds in your carry gun, that you also use and train with regularly, than switching between normal range rounds and rarely tested carry rounds.

For weight, 180gr works great.

Thanks, it's not for me. A friend is picking up a .40 today and found a deal on some internet ammo. I don't shoot .40 so I couldn't really answer the question. I still carry a wheel gun.
