Range Bag

I have several different range bags. For the nights when I'll have several different handguns I use a large Husky tool bag from Home Depot. Guns in smallest gun rugs possible. Ammo in 50 round plastic boxes with a card in each box saying what it is, I try to put different loads of same caliber in different boxes to keep from mixing. All empties go in a single bag. I always have ear plugs, stapler, and paper plates in each range bag.

Back-packs too. My son's old school backs backs he has out-grown are excellent spare range bags. They have padded divides, smaller outside pockets, padded straps and back plates and are generally slightly smaller that regular packs so you are not digging around in a seemingly "bottomless" pack. They are designed for fairly heavy loads and hard use too.

Gym bag. Has multiple pockets and can be "lined" with foam if desired.

Before I found an "eBay special" backpack rangebag at a great price, my DIY range bag was my gym bag and it did the job. I only bought the "eBay special" because I wanted to look cool, not because it actually added any real functionality.

Try what you already have before you buy anything.
You might like what you already have.
If you don't, you will Know what features you want that are worth buying.
Lately I've using a Vantage Cruise bag.

I caught a sale at Dicks Sporting Goods on fishing tackle bags. They had one that the lure trays was missing from, so it was "deep" discounted to $10 (normally $39).

It's a nylon bag with pockets on each end (for my eyes and ears), a net pocket on back (for my shooting log-book) and a flap in front that conceals three zippered pockets (each contains magazines sorted by caliber)and a spot for a multi-tool. The top "double-zippered flap covers the main compartment, which has space for up to (4) F.S. handguns and shooting gloves.

Perfect for the range. :D

How about some images of your "ebay special"

This one has worked out well for me. Plenty room for 3 or 4 pistols, ammo, mags, and other accessories. Looks like they are on sale for $59.99. Its sturdy and well built with lots of compartments.

Midway range bag. I recommend the coyote or OD green.

I actually like two small/medium size range bags instead of one big one. I put ammo and accessories in one bag and guns in the other and there is less weight and the stitching lasts longer. It is also easier to carry two 20lb bags than it is to carry one 40lb bag.

I have been using an old nylon and canvas diaper bag for a couple of years and it works great. No it does not have teddy bears or such on it.

I work part time at an indoor range and have seem some interesting transport. The best I've seen is a guy carrying his guns and gear in a big yellow kitty litter bucket. He said nobody would suspect the contents if he had to stop anywhere on the way to or from the range.

I went with a large oversize ammo box made out of plastic .. it has a top covered tray divided into three sections for ear plugs range passes notebook and paper and pens

The main compartment is large enough to fit 3 or 4 pistols in their cases or gun rugs in it with several hundred rounds of ammo .. enough for several hours of enjoyment at the range !! plus room for my ear muffs and an extra pair of safety glasses and a couple of extra magazines for each pistol ..

Works quite well and I like the fact it has hard sides unlike a bag would so what ever in it wouldn't be damaged by something hitting it in the side like could happen with a soft sided bag .. it is also lockable in 2 places .. so you could double lock it if you would like !!

I found a very nice(at least it used to be) bag made for cement working tools on the job site. Heavy canvas, stitched and riveted construction, very nice leather handles. I put what ammo boxes and pistols etc I am shooting that day and have a small bag for ear protection etc. I think I gave the sum of $4.00 for the bag. Everyone likes it and if I get mud,etc on it I just hose it off and hang it up to dry .best $4.00 range tote ever!

I use something like this...

I picked up a large camera bag at a second hand store for $10, it has side pockets that hold 3 sets of ear muffs, a front pocket for stapler, staples, screwdriver, gun oil and brass rod and a large center pocket that will hold 5 full size hand guns wrapped in towels or gun rugs. I use a small gym bag to carry ammo. Hand straps and a shoulder strap make it easy to carry.
