Boy did I get a rude awakening on range prices! Since moving to KY from MI it's like night & day :( I was paying $7.50 per hr. @ my favorite range in Taylor, MI, now that I'm down here in KY, the local range that is the closest has range prices of $25 per hr. :eek: I was checking out the membership fees & that seems to be the way to go (a weekday membership runs $199 per yr.) so I broke it down & the cost would be about $16.70 per month. So I think I'm going to gift myself with a membership for 2012 :D
 
That $25 /hr seems crazy to me .

The 3 closest ranges to me in the ATL area are :
1 $ 17 hr a really nice place but 40 minutes away
2 $ 15 hr
3 $ 5 for 1/2 hr , a dump , but it's cheap and passable .

I joined #2 , $300 yr , no restrictions , head of line rights if busy - like yesterday ! I had my 4 kids in town and they gave us the first 2 lanes available and there were prob 20 people waiting .

I go prob 5-6 times per mth .

Where I am Jacksonville, FL there are two close ranges both are per day prices and you don't have to buy anything from them except range time. One is $17 the other is $12. The $12 one always has a long wait usually at least 45 minutes. Back in CT I was getting $10 for an hour with free guests. They both are pretty much same quality ranges.
 
My club's outdoor range (100 yard, 16 ports) charges the public $5 for the first hour and $1/15 minutes thereafter. LE and military get the first hour free.

Club members ($50/yr) have the range all week, unlimited time, except Saturday and Sunday at no additional charge. No charge for guests of members.

Up in my neck of the woods, I have three indoor ranges equidistant from my home.

The first one allows pistol calibers up to .44 Rem Mag. No .454 Casull, .500 S&W, .50 AE, etc. You can fire a long gun as long as it's pistol caliber following the same rules above. They have 24 lanes that show their age. $20/hr.

The second one has a total of 10 lanes. They allow pistol & rifles. Lanes were refurbished. $20/hr.

The third is run by a large retail chain. 5 pistol lanes & 1 rifle tube. They have the most modern equipped range, excellent lighting, and great range ventilation. $18.99/hr

I used to go to the range every week, but the range fee & ammo cost start to hurt over time. The range time alone cost me $1040/year :(

I'm not even going to figure out the ammo cost over a year or I'll really start crying.

Swan Creek shooting range in Decatur, Alabama is FREE! You just need a hunting license for $10.
 
My local public range is $16/hr. Membership is $190 and then you still pay $9 an hour. I really need to find a private range.
 
Two public indoor ranges close to me, both within a few miles of each other.

Range #1 charges $13 per hour for handguns ($11 if you purchase ammo from them) and $15 per hour for rifles ($13 if you purchase ammo from them). Their ammo prices are reasonable, but range fodder from Wal-Mart is much cheaper. They also have memberships. I purchased an annual Public Safety membership for $150 and with my twenty range visits so far it's more than paid for itself in the three months I've had it.

Range #2 has no membership fee, it's pay as you go. $10 per hour no matter what you shoot, however you must purchase / shoot ONLY their ammunition and it's expensive.

The indoor range at work is open to me free of charge anytime I want to go during daytime weekday business hours. Drawbacks are that it's almost thirty miles away, I can draw 150 rounds of free ammunition per month but I'm required to purchase anything above that and the required range ammo is VERY expensive frangible. Any of the free ammunition drawn must be shot then and there at the time of the draw; you can't take it with you.

My nearest outdoor range is about thirty miles away. Charge is $3 per person to shoot all day. Handgun range, rifle range and skeet range. Nice place but I only go there when I'm planning on shooting long range rifle.

All in all I feel pretty fortunate to have so many options available to me.
 
The local indoor range 1/4 mile from my house is $16/hour with 10 lanes at 0-25m, quality setup but pistols/pistol caliber rifles only. I bought a $150 year membership several years ago and renew it each year for $125.
The Department of Natural Resources range 5 miles away is free, with 25m, 50m, and 100m ranges. Only restriction is no rapid fire when the RSO is there, which is about never.
 
Here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast I pay $200.00 a year. Range is open Sunup-Sundown 365 days a year. Electronic gate. Several Skeet, Trap ranges. 3 rifle ranges with covered benches. Range #1 is 25 yard 22 only. Range #2 has 50 yard, 60 yard, 100 yard, 125 yard berms. Range #3 has 50, 100, 150, 200, 300 yard berms). 3 pistol ranges with covered benches with boards at different ranges from 7-50 yards. Shotgun pattern board. I can almost always have one of the ranges to myself on weekday evenings.
 
Local indoor range is $17.00 for 30 minutes, $20 for 30 minutes on the rifle lane.
 
there's a variety of places around here, there's the indoor place where i am a member: i pay $200 a year +$10 per visit for unlimited time. there is also a state range which is like $4 per hour per person outdoor up to 100yds. most other places around which are indoor/outdoor are about $30 per hour per person. some allow lane sharing some don't. some require you buy all ammo on site, and they inspect your mags. it varies wildly depending on where you go it seems.
 
I frequent Owen County regularly and shoot for free at one of the state ranges located at one of the Wildlife Management Areas. Contact the Ky DNR or check online and see if there is a WMA near you that has a range facility. Of course, the range is only open during daylight hours and is limited to 100 yards.
The only time that it has ever been crowded is the couple of weeks before deer season when everbody was checking their rifles.

6. Higginson-Henry WMA, Union County: shooting range with tubes for single projectile firearms.

7. Jones-Keeney WMA, Caldwell County: rifle-pistol range and archery range.

8. West Kentucky WMA, McCracken County: Club-operated skeet range and archery range.

Im a huge fan of just finding a secluded spot in the woods (this is obv pending the state your in and what is allowed). they are hard to come across but I just cant bring myself to spend 16/hr at the local range.
 
Outdoor ranges near me:
$20 all day
$30 for 2 hours(although if it's not busy you can stay longer)
$14 all day

Indoor:
$15 per hour
$15 for 2-hours

BLM land:

Gas money :)
 
That's crazy. One range here is 8 bucks for the day. Includes targets, eye and ear protection.

The other is 12 for the day but does not include eye, ear or targets.

I would never pay 25 an hour without a significant ammo discount.
 
I live 20 or so minutes from Alco Target company, I have 200 targets from them from my first visit, I'll be buying directly from them from now on for just about all of my paper targets. There's some $ savings there :)
 
Now I'll never complain.

Our range charges $ 7.50 for the day even if you leave and come back later. Just keep your receipt with you.

You can use it on the Public Range or any of the other ranges like Silouette, Long Range High Power, Practical Pistol, Benchrest or Archery.

But if you don't sign in at the Main Range first for $ 7.50 and get caught using a range it's a $ 150 fine.
 
boy i am glad to be a poor ol redneck that don't know no better to live here in the jungles of s.c. where i walk outside my house cross my dirt road and shoot on my 100yd+ range, and all i have to do is pay my crazy high priced land taxes every year on something that i paid for years ago and the gov. will let me keep it to enjoy...... for now;)

They're raping you. In KY, those are CA prices. I'm a member of a FL gun club in a pretty populated area and it's $100/yr. unlimited shooting with about 10 types of ranges on 150 acres.

I'm in Orange Park, just outside Jax.

On the Westside, there is "Gateway Rifle and Pistol Club"...$100 initiation fee, then $112/year.

Two 100yd rifle ranges, a 200yd rifle range, 5 pistol ranges with steel plates, a 7/15yd pistol range, a BIG (25 table?) silhouette range (.22lr only, has fixed steel targets, too)...a skeet/trap range, etc, etc...

I think it's a great value, and it's a well maintained facility. Nice clubhouse with indoor bathrooms, discounts on ammo for members...it's a great range.

I pay $30 a year for my range. Nothing else after that. 25, 50, 100, 200 and 300 yard ranges. Trap range and archery course also. In the winter we have a heated building where you open windows and shoot 50/100 yards from benches. If I had to pay everytime out my wife would not let me go.
 
Free Range in a state park 1 Hour outside of Charlotte NC. Awesome covered benches and while its only 100 yards you can never beat free. Gets busy though as you can imagine. I pay 225 for a 15 month membership for the family in Greensboro at Calibers indoor range.
 
Wow, can't imagine paying hourly fees to go shoot. Here in Saskatoon (Western Canada) it's $200/year for 200 yard outdoor rifle range, 100 yard outdoor pistol range, 200 yard silhouette range, skeet thrower/shotgun area, and 2 25 yard heated indoor ranges. 24x7 access with magnetic key card.

Of course, the down side is that ARs (including my M&P15-22) are restricted to range use only here. :mad:
 
Wow! we pay $40 per year, and that's it. It's an outdoor range, but kept up well. Room for about a dozen rifle shooters, three pistol ranges, a shotgun range, and a small bore range.(rimfires only). We get a membership card with a combination to the front gate lock. We can go, and come whenever we want to, day or night. Of course it's not much fun in the winter here in Montana.

Yea. It's actually up to 40F here today. Really unusual for us. We've had several days in a row of this kind of weather.
