Range Report...Autos Dominated until....29,629,19,10 showed up. 44Mag...Alienates

it's really sad (but true) what you mentioned as to those that didn't even know what a revolver was...amazing....pretty cool when you lit the range up...i do that with my 500 and 460 magnum...a sure attention getter !!

Peppercorn, I really like the Eagle "Coke" round to square butt grips you have on the 629. That does it; I am going to have to order a set.

Thanks 'Sear,

I have tried the rubber grips on these guns and just keep going back to targets.
The Eagles are great by the way.
In fact, I just acquired a 627PC and put the Eagles on it just to see how it felt. Just right.
The grips that come on the 627 are tiny, barely bigger than the frame. I will probably get another set of Eagles for this gun now.

Girl to my left, to her partner...'OMG, what was that'?!

Man down four lanes to my right...'Jesus******,Who has the Hand Canon'?!

Guy down three to my left to one of his rapid fire buddies...'Damn, look at the recoil and flame coming outa that thing!' Buddy replys, 'I know, I have been watching it'!

Guy to my direct right during my reload, 'Man that thing puts out alot of pressure, I feel it on the side of my face, what is it?!'

I almost always get the same reaction when I fire up the .44 mag. I only own two pistols: A Ruger Mark 3 .22 auto and a Performance Center Stealth Hunter 629. I usually pop away with the .22 until I get bored and want the big flash and bang. I run a pretty hot load of 21 grains of 2400 under a 240 grain Hornady XTP, so the transition from the .22 to the .44 is quite dramatic and impressive.

I try to be courteous though and usually warn the shooters in the next lanes before touching off the .44, especially if there are obviously new shooters there. I also try and wait for a newer shooter to finish their current magazine before stepping up to the line for the first few shots. If they have a rental gun, that's my tip off that they might be "just checking out this shooting thing".

If there is an obviously veteran shooter next door, then I don't even worry about it. I just blaze away. I do get a LOT of questions about the weapon though- You know: "What the heck is that thing"? has got to be the number one question. I've even had a few instances of people taking close up pictures of it. It's kind of weird actually because I tell people that it's just a .44 Magnum and there are much more powerful handguns around now, no big deal. Oh well, in this world dominated by little automatics, I love the roar of the large caliber revolver! It's great being different!

I'll have to remember to drag my 29-2 X 8 3/8" along next time I go to the indoor range. It is only 6 bays wide by 25 yds but has a backstop designed to handle about anything that can be fired from the shoulder or at arms' length. Billy Bob and Bubba like to bring their black rifles in 5.56 NATO and their wonder nines to blaze away at the backstop... I'm not sure many of them understand the meaning of or use for those black circles on the papers they post at 7 1/2 or 15 yds. Maybe if I can deafen them enough, I'll be able to get in some significant practice with my Bullseye guns and my own carry revolvers with calibers that begin with "3." ;)

Lol!

No kidding, my sentiments, exactly.

What kind of wood are your grips made of? Walnut? Rosewood?

Here is a picture of what they will get mounted on when I get them. Caliber is 45 Colt. The rubbers have to go...

That is a fine looking revolver.

My grips are Rosewood, Heritage.
Be sure to post photos once you have them.
