I got to the indoor range Saturday to shoot the Anaconda for the second time. I took it the local outdoor range the day after I bought it mainly to check for function. All the ammo I shot was either upper mid range or full house magnum loads with Speer 240 grain jacketed soft nose bullets. The target below was at 10 yards and all shots fired were double action.
I was very pleasantly surprised how well I can shoot this gun double action. The target is no trophy for most guys on here, but for me pulling the trigger, it is just damned impressive. I've got to say that I shoot it much better than I shoot the 29. The 29 recoils noticeably harder into the web of my hand.
The one concern I have with the gun is that it had 4 light primer strikes, shooting either Federal 350 or Winchester LPM primers. On the first day I shot it, I had no light strikes, all 4 occurred Saturday. All the rounds fired when I fired them single action.

Beautiful gun. I want to get one to keep the Python company but MA has a roster. Python 6 inch is on our target roster But no Anaconda.

The new Anaconda is an excellent revolver. It actually has a nicer trigger pull than the Python due to its action parts somewhat scaled up and the mechanical advantage it gives.

There may…I repeat may…be an Anaconda chambered for .454 in the future. The gun was designed for it but was brought out in .44 Magnum first. Whether a .454 is produced is still a question.

Congrats - NICE GUN!! Colt has been making some good Revolvers lately. I have a few friends who recently bought new Pythons and I must say they are pretty darn impressive!! If I was in the market for a brand new Revolver today, it would be Colt.

Is Colt still using choked barrels?

That's a myth spread for years by gun writers that heard it from someone who knew someone that had a third cousin twice removed that was in a gun store when someone else said that.

While it sounds nice Colt does tend to use tighter rates of twist in their barrels…at least with .38/.357 calibers.

The 6" Anaconda balances quite well. The 8" version could use a bipod…that extra 2" hanging out front is noticeable.
I've had the same experience with Pythons. The 6 inch barrel is manageable, the 8 inch barrel is very muzzle heavy and it's harder to keep the front sight steady without some sort of a rest.

You can expect a 4.25" Anaconda from what I understand. I'm waiting for the .454 Anaconda but that's supposedly not scheduled…yet.
